PM Prayut Chan-o-cha briefed media yesterday after the cabinet’s weekly meeting and revealed the government has agreed to temporarily scrap the Tor Mor 6 immigration form.

The TM6 form is the arrival/departure card foreigners fill in providing passport details, name and address, etc., on their entry and exit from Thailand.

TM6 was still required at some borders in 2023 and 2024

I was in Laos September 2023 which required a completed TM6 form

The government has suspended the requirement for foreigners who enter Thailand by land or sea to fill out TM 6 immigration forms from April 15 until Oct 15.

The cabinet approved the suspension on April 9 in response to a proposal by Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, ministry spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul said on Friday.

So why does no other country use one? Or require you to report to immigration within 24 hours of arrival?

The hoops we have to jump through are a fricken joke, e.g. 90 day reporting, annual extensions, and if that's not enough, like you said, report to immigration within 24 hours of arrival.

The part is the best part I look forward to, i.e. drive 90km to these bozos to say, hey, I'm back, then drive 90 kilometres back, thanks for nothing.

What about those that do not possess a mobile phone? Will the old written method be in operation?

There are zero details of the proposed system.  So until they are announced it's anyone's guess how things will work.

From chat gpt:

Starting May 1, 2025, Thailand will require all foreign visitors to complete a Digital Arrival Card (TM6 form) before entering the country. This applies to travelers arriving by air, land, or sea, including those from visa-exempt countries. The digital TM6 form is free of charge and must be submitted online prior to your arrival. It collects personal and travel details, such as passport information and your address in Thailand.

As of February 2025, the digital TM6 system is not yet operational, and the traditional paper-based TM6 form remains suspended. Therefore, travelers do not currently need to complete any arrival card when entering Thailand. However, starting May 1, 2025, you will need to complete the digital TM6 form before your trip. It's advisable to check the latest updates from official Thai immigration sources or consult your airline prior to departure to ensure compliance with the new requirements.

From AI results...

"Thailand's Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) is an online system that allows foreign visitors to register their arrival details before entering the country"

One important word is  online

No mobile phone makes it more difficult.

There might be a increased reliance on Travel Agents once again for travelers who have no online access. The last time I used a Travel Agent was in 2013.

The "chat gpt" got this wrong.

The latest information I have seen on the timing of the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), also known as the "TM.6 online" system is the following:

Quote

…The TDAC system is expected to be fully operational by May 1…

Please note differece between "…will require…" and "…expected to be…"

If Singapore is any model - and it often is with Thai procedures - then

no, it will not be a requirement for boarding

yes, it can be done in the arrivals hall

At this point I wouldn't worry about it. Once it is "soft-launched" there will be more details.

Indeed, one hopes they follow the Singapore and Malaysian format. Completed online up to 3 days prior to travel or can be completed in the arrivals hall if necessary.
