Trump Revokes Security Clearances for Attorneys Who Assisted Special Counsel Jack Smith

WASHINGTON — In a striking move, President Trump on Tuesday revoked the security clearances of attorneys from the law firm Covington & Burling who provided pro bono legal services to former special counsel Jack Smith. Smith had previously prosecuted Trump in two federal criminal cases that were ultimately cut short before reaching trial.

“This is a good one. Is everybody listening?” Trump declared from the Oval Office. “Deranged Jack Smith — we’re going to call it the deranged Jack Smith signing or bill.”

Trump criticized what he called the "weaponization" of the legal system, accusing law firms of using pro bono work to obstruct government functions. “The weaponization of our system by law firms, even pro bono work they’re doing just in order to clog up government, stop government, and nobody knows about it more than me, and hopefully that’ll never happen again,” he said.

At one point, Trump cut off a reporter attempting to ask about U.S. troop deployments in Europe. “Wait, I just want to savor this one, please,” he said before holding up the pen he had used to sign the order. “Who would like this pen? Why don’t you send it to Jack Smith? A deranged person.”

Covington & Burling did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A disclosure from Smith’s office on January 10 revealed that he had received $140,000 in free legal services from the firm. Politico reported that at least two attorneys, Peter Koski and Lanny Breuer, had represented Smith.

The memorandum signed by Trump formally revokes the clearances of “Koski and all members, partners, and employees of Covington & Burling LLP who assisted former Special Counsel Jack Smith during his time as Special Counsel, pending a review and determination of their roles and responsibilities.”

Smith had successfully secured federal indictments against Trump in 2023 while the former president was campaigning for a return to the White House. However, those cases were effectively halted before going to trial after Trump’s reelection.

For anyone that understand the reasons for this action. And the case problems associated with Jack Smith. It was not his job to do what he did. He had no authorization to act on Trumps case. He managed to get the a court date set before this information was learned.

Anyone that knows about court cases also knows you only need to show there is reasonable doubt to obtain a court date. Even if this means using collusion with other things to show a chance they might win in a courtroom.

The man of hate goes after his perceived enemies with a vengeance, don't use the presidency to do good, don't use it to improve the world, don't use it to establish peace and harmony and aid the poorest of the poor.

Use it to go after your enemies and seek revenge like a petty 13 year old child. Good work Don. Making America less significant and less influential by the day.

Trump is on fire. Fixing Biden mess. Why would he keep security access to grubby lawyers? The hateful left have lost it.

I'm all for frivolous court cases and law suits to be jumped upon, with those bringing them made to pay all costs associated with them.  I'm assuming this Jack Smith case comes under this banner.  Same goes for any politically motivated case.

I'm sure Trump has a few members of staff helping him.  I'm sure Trump doesn't do everything himself, and different departments are dealing with Ukraine and Jack Smith.  But it is a waste of time & money nevertheless.

Yes, There are Teams from all sides. But Trump said he'd end the war, and that's what matters, nothing was being done by Biden, only escalations.

He did have concept to end the war. Biden stopped Russia invasion of Ukraine which Putin promised to be over in 2 days.

Did you see that that scumbag Clinesmith, who FORGED a document to persecute an American citizen, is still a lawyer.

Yeah.  Everyone, no matter who they are, should face the consequences if they break the law.

Give up with the Ukraine invasion younlook foolish, Putin was concentrating on the 3 areas in the East. He has them, Biden, UK & NATO prolonged the war and thus caused 100,000's of deaths.

Trump is the only one actually making the effort to end the deaths.

Correct, the war has been going on for three years now, all Biden did was support the war, by sending money and arms and eat his ice cream. Hundreds of thousands of people dead and no end in sight until Trump won the election and now the end is in sight!

He didnt. He did the WORST  thing a government lawyer could do, he walks free and keeps his law license. Thanks Dems for demonstrating how Justice is blind.

On the other hand Ashley Babbitt is dead, shot down by a DEI unqualified Federal cop.  Cant wait for that trial to start soon. And the first Trump appeal decision.
