A few months ago I bought from and had fitted by homepro 2 bathroom taps.

 

No matter how much I clean them a few days later brown dirty water seems to ooze from the base of the taps.

It happens with both identical taps in 2 bathrooms.

 

Any ideas why? 

Looks to me the Water Hoses to the Tabs are not correct fitted and leaking and may course internal corrosion already.

I would take your photo to homepro and ask them to come back and investigate the problem. 

I'd say your new taps are made from cheap steel. 

 

The steel is rusting 

Just found my receipt for the taps, 1390 Baht each.

 

Spec says made of 100% brass for durability and corrosion resistance.

If the number provided is correct, the faucet is a 1/2 inch cold feed only.

 

Its possible the installer has used a mild steel washer below the faucet base. 

 

A washer is often added when fitting single 1/2 inch faucets into a hole big enough to fit a dual feed hot/cold faucet.
 

Or cover ring is wrong (iron) quality, or something UNDER de coverring?

You have them letting fitted, So maybe they had a fitting problem and they fixed it with wrong material ?

It is brown water, so probably rust, oxidation of iron. The only metal giving brown oxide.

Let them fix it again.

 

 

Update: I went to homepro and tried to convince them that the tap wasn't brass as described as what appears to be rusty water is leaking out. After discussion with plumbing section and customer service they agreed to come to my house the next day.

2 management/customer service team and one technician came as agreed and the technician comepletely took the tap apart, cleaned it and showed me the inside which wasn't rusty at all!

They blamed it on me using Tomi bathroom cleaner, there was a bottle in the bathroom, which has corroded the black outer surface and causing the brown stain. Apparently I should only use water or washing up liquid to clean the actual tap. Lesson learnt.

 

Now that's been resolved maybe you can solve my other bathroom problem.

 

The en suite in guest bedroom, the room was used twice last year for a few days but basically not used for years. 

 

The original basin tap had corroded a bit so I changed it for a cheap one I had bought online. In a very short space of time it went rusty so I replaced it again with a more expensive one from Homepro , identical to one I used successfully in another room for a few years. This also went rusty very quickly along with anything else metal in the bathroom like the handle of a cleaning brush.

 

The small bathroom window is always open as is the door. What can cause this and how to remedy it please? Any ideas?

I guess that's a valid argument as many manufacturer's of black faucets suggest not using any type of chemical cleaner. Bit of a joke when you consider the environment these cool black fashionable fittings have to endure.

Quality stainless steel fittings is one sure way to avoid corrosion issues. There a VRH brand fittings in our place that are 15+ years old and look like new.

The way of cleaning black or chrome taps are exactly the same, no chemical cleaners are needed or wanted, just wipe the water off them each time they are used. I have chrome & black taps that are going on for 7 years and look the same as they did when fitted. My brother “in an extremely hard water area” has taps going on fo 20 years old he follows the same practice with the same results.

Quite sure the wiping after use will keep black a fitting clean but unfortunately that's not everyone routine especially in a shower cubicle.

 

Its not difficult to find people who are finding the fashionable and delicate black coatings difficult to keep clean.

That is the fault of those who will not respect the fittings. The good quality black coatings are as easy to keep looking good as the quality chrome ones. The cheap ones will damage easily.

If the users are not willing to respect the bathroom furniture, then buy a stock of cheap stuff and be prepared to change it on an annual or semi-annual basis.

 

As to those who are finding black coatings difficult to keep clean then they are buying cheap quality items or aren’t cleaning then after every use.

 

Black is a colour that requires more maintenance than any other, many people are lazy and disrespectful of other people’s stuff.
