Picture from arrest.

Authorities have raided the home of a 54-year-old expatriate, Mr. Francisco Ramos, a Spanish national and former TV presenter for Discovery Channel,  following complaints about illegal wildlife possession on his vast 98-rai estate in Kanchanaburi Province.

Officers from the Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression Division (NRECD), in coordination with immigration police and wildlife officials, executed a court-approved search warrant at a property in Lao Khwan district. Reports had alleged that the owner was keeping a variety of protected and exotic animals, including species imported from abroad.

During the search, authorities discovered over 50 animals, including kangaroos, ostriches, capybaras, emus, peacocks, miniature livestock such as pygmy goats and cows, wild boars, civets, and several protected reptiles, including Sulcata tortoises and reticulated pythons.

Mr. Francisco, the property’s owner, admitted to purchasing the animals as pets. He claimed that the land belonged to his son, who was born from his marriage to former Thai model Alisa Inthusamit, also known as  Yuyee, a well-known figure from the 1990s, who in 2014 received a 15-year sentence for smuggling cocaine into the country. She also received a prison term of three months, handed down in a separate case by the Min Buri Court, which convicted her of smuggling protected wildlife into the country. Both Yuyee and her husband, at the time, claimed she was framed  by an influential person they had angered by setting free animals held by wildlife traffickers. She was released in 2020, after serving 6 years.

Francisco also revealed that he had frequently posted pictures and videos of the animals on his Facebook and YouTube channels, which may have led to the complaints that triggered the investigation.

Police have charged Francisco with possession of protected wildlife without proper permits, a violation of Thailand’s Wildlife Conservation and Protection Act of 2019. He has been ordered to provide documentation proving legal ownership of the animals. If additional offences are discovered, further legal action will be taken.

Stupid comment as usual.

she had a quarter of one gram.

I did obviously mean any drugs that she DIDN'T get caught smuggling .

If  she didn't get caught  ,then she would have made a huge profit .

Shes not going to get rich for the drugs that she had confiscated from her, now is she Malcolm .

(And its been known that the authorities confiscate drugs and keep some for themselves and just use a minimal amount for the prosecution )

Not true. I know this guy for years.  This is a long and complex story, where the resentment and hatred from a broken marriage.  A classic and recurring theme between Falangs and Thais. He is a healthy guy who is not a drug addict and who dedicates his life to caring for animals and raising his three children. In this case, a worker who had been fired has taken revenge by reporting “illegal” animals.

   Not being pedantic

But I did ask a question .

So, you first sentence should have been *No, it wasn't * , rather than "Not True"

So the sons name is on all the land deeds and was he given it or did he buy it 🤔

He bought the land from his ex-wife for 225,000 Euros, to put it in the name of one of his 3 sons who works with him at the sanctuary.

I bet all of the exotic animals living in cages at the Chatuchak market (even after the fire) can only wish to live on the Spaniards farm where I bet they will have more space. Sickening to see all the exotic animals at Chatuchak market, even having little goats (not exotic I know) in tiny cages good for a small cat!

Many times the police themselves ask Frank to go to the airport to pick up protected animals that are being trafficked, because they simply don't know what to do with them. Pure hypocrisy.

What am I ignorant about ?

I haven't stated anything , just asked a question , so that cannot be classified "living in your own world "

Although there have actually been incidents where  customs have confiscating drugs and keeping some for themselves , although I am not claiming that that definitely happened here

It's not so stupid. No amount was mentioned in the article and the fact she got a 15 year jail term would have suggested that she had more than a quarter gram on her.

Which of those animals are specifically listed as protected species under Thai law?

For a start, he shouldn't be in possession of an Australian kangaroo or emu. No one should be allowed to keep a collection of wild animals, particularly as large a one as this.

So you want him to purchase all the wild animals from Chatuchak to increase demand and provide revenue for further illegal importations?!

The arrest was caused by not having all the permits and authorizations in order..I hope he is released soon, at least on bail. He is currently undergoing treatment for Cancer.

Pic made last month.
