Are the USA and Europe heading for a Divorce?

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

It seems like relations between the US and Europe are now at an all time low.

I understand both sides of the argument - trump is sick of sending money to Ukraine for nothing in return, whilst Europe need to do all they can to protect themselves from a mad dictator just a stones throw away..

I think things are about to get really frosty between Europe and the US. If the US doesn't support Ukraine and Zelensky anymore then just stop supporting them, cut off all funding and focus solely on domestic issues instead of destabilizing the rest of the world....At the end of the day, it is a war being raged in Europe and the Europeans themselves should band together and get it sorted between them.

bob.

Yes.

But the good news is that China, Russia, North Korea and maybe Hungary are there to pick up "sloppy seconds".

The US post-WWII alliances were the foundation of both national security and economic prosperity. In addition, both our allies and even kind of hostile nations like China funded America's lifestyle, owning upwards of 30% of US Treasuries and funding the deficit.

DOGE---according to the Wall Street journal---has actually only "saved" $2.7 billion, far from its claim of $55 billion. Also, various estimates from investment banks say that POTUS proposed tax cuts will add an additional $900 billion PER YEAR to the US budget deficit. Who is going to fund that profligacy? Maybe the Fed is going to have to keep the printers running 24/7, which will just juice the inflation the tariffs will bring.

Even "owning the libs" is going to require Weimar Germany wheelbarrows full of lucre.

Create their own EU army and smash this putin fella to smithereens!

MAGA heads somehow believe this will benefit the US & them. Well they've been told this by FOX, and lets face it, most of these people want to be angry at something. After the internal enemy of WOKEness, whatever that is, Euro Land is ready made entity to vent spleen on. There has always been an isolationist element to the right wing. Sad as these are the people that will be taken to the cleaners in the end. Not much sympathy left for these types. ....

Iraqi desert adventure trip - disaster. Torture, oops enhanced interrogation, destroying what work Truman Eisenhower & Roosevelt had done to protect POW's.  Then 2008, Wall street collapse, all  because Republicans wanted less rules for banks. Add them up and then top it with  Donald Trump's led cluster puckery with KGB/Stassi man.

Republicans, conservatives, MAGA sprogs, are a curse upon the land, and now, multiple continents.  They are like locusts.

Laughable. Let's start with the noisiest, the Brits. The UK armed forces total around 50,000 active members, which will fit into Wembley stadium with room left over for WAGs. In Ukraine? They will be arrested by the local constables.

And then is the problem that they can't get it up. Successive attempts to launch Trident missiles failed: https://www.chathamhouse.org/2024/02/second-failed-trident-test-time-expand-and-invest-britains-conventional-capabilities

France, German and Italy all have equally boutique AFs. If Uncle Sam walks the Europeans will be scrambling to cover their tiny manhoods. They need to come to DC and grovel some more. This week wasn't enough.

Then, let's get the hell out of NATO -- and save nearly a trillion dollars annually. No need for DOGE trump change -- just pack up and leave European defense to the Europeans -- NATO certainly doesn't provide any defense to the US.

The United States remains the world’s largest military spender by far. In dollar terms, the US represents about two-thirds of NATO countries’ annual defence spending, budgeting an estimated $967bn.

The European Union is now compared to an abused partner in a relationship with the United States under President Trump. Despite Trump's abusive behaviors, such as threatening security commitments, interfering in elections, and normalizing relations with Russia, European leaders continue to seek approval and cooperation from him.

This pattern is explained by the reasons why people stay in abusive relationships: fear, normalized abuse, shame, and intimidation. Europe's fear is rooted in the belief that they cannot protect themselves without the US, while normalized abuse stems from the relief European leaders feel when Trump behaves non-abusively. Shame keeps Europe from acknowledging its weakness and taking real steps towards strategic autonomy. Intimidation, in the form of threats from Trump, further keeps Europe in the relationship.

The only way for Europe to deal rationally with Trump is to admit the abusive nature of the relationship and gain self-respect by taking steps towards independence.

Europe has been in decline for centuries. The decline continues. Asia plus US is the future. US and Asia have the best tech and best companies.

Future is US, China, Korea and Japan.
