A father and son were killed in a road crash after their motorbike was struck by a speeding car in Ratchaburi. CCTV footage captured the devastating collision, which took place on Phetkasem Road in Tha Rab Subdistrict, Mueang District.

 

Police and emergency services arrived at the scene to find a black Proton car with a crumpled front end and a detached rear fittings, parked by the roadside. The driver, identified as Sarawut Kongthongjeen, 38, from Nakhon Si Thammarat, sustained injuries and was taken to Ratchaburi Hospital for treatment.

 

Nearby, officers discovered a severely damaged red-and-black Yamaha motorbike, along with the lifeless bodies of Jetsada Boonart, 39, and his father Boonsoek Boonart, 60. Both men, who were from Photharam District, had been thrown from their bike upon impact, with one landing against a wall.

 

Initial investigations revealed that the father and son had spent the morning browsing and purchasing Buddhist amulets at the Kobkul Market in Tha Rab. As they were riding home on their motorbike, with Boonsoek driving and Jetsada sitting pillion, they were struck from behind by the Proton car, which was travelling at high speed. The force of the impact sent them crashing into a wall and a utility pole, killing them instantly.

 

Police are now examining CCTV footage from the area to establish the exact cause of the crash and determine whether the driver of the car will face legal action.

Too many sicko's have been too busy after wetting themselves a little  in excitement after identifying some irony.... 

 

A tragic loss of two generations....     

 

I'm wondering why CCTV footage was not presented with the article (if it was available) - which would clear up if the deceased pulled out across a car without looking, or if they car just rear-ended them at speed while driving recklessly.....  Both are possibilities here IMO.

More likely amulets never work, and this they should know by now. Putting your faith in a piece of metal doesn't help on the roads here.

The CCTV made available only shows events after the collision, with authorities not releasing the footage of impact.

 

The available footage, even after editing is totally unsuitable to be shown on the forum. The bodies are shown flying through the air, with the car still traveling at speed. One body is seen smashing into the wall, in an impact that is unlikely to be survivable.

Oh... yeah... I can understand why that was not published... 

 

I have perhaps what some would call a sick interest in how these incidents happen... not to see the gore and carnage, but because I both ride a motorcycle and drive a car - and such incidents are a constant reminder... but also a learning opportunity.

 

i.e. was this one of those chaotic events caused by a lunatic driver, and completely unavoidable for the motorcyclists... Or were they stationary in the middle of the road or pull out without looking etc... 

 

 

I've had my fair share of near misses recently - motorcycles just pilling out across me - low speed stuff and I was able to slam on the anchors quickly enough to prevent impact - 100% the motorcyclists fault - they just carry on their way as if nothing happened, I'm not sure they learned a thing, I'm not sure it even registered that I've just saved them from a broken leg or similar....

This 5 second clip is all I am prepared to post, which shows CCTV of the father and son with the car approaching before the collision and a different cam after impact. You will have to pause the after impact part as it is only a second long.
 

Authorities have not released the footage of the impact..

 

The pictures shows the damage to car and motorcycle. For reference the motorcycle and victims are next to the ambulance in the car picture

Thanks...  from what we can see....  the report seems pretty spot on... 

 

Two lives, Two generations destroyed by reckless driving & speeding....   

 

... the father and son were simply riding their bike and doing nothing wrong at all... 

 

 

I would hope this results in a length custodial sentence for the car driver...  this can't be called an accident....

You may notice my reports do not call them accidents, unless I miss it when reading the translation.

 

Emergency responders have long stated;

 

“The term ‘road accident’ exemplifies society’s tolerance of road danger. Too many still do not hold drivers accountable for their actions, implying instead it was a matter of chance. By using the word ‘accident’ – society is saying that there is nothing that can be done about these deaths and injuries, and they are an acceptable pay off for having motor vehicles. Planes and trains do not have ‘accidents’ – they crash.”

 

Years ago in the UK it was called RTAs (Road traffic accident), but that was changed to RTC (Road traffic collision),  Uk guidance for responders reporting is below.

We don't actually know if the car was at fault.  It could be that the bike pulled in front of him.
