A long-distance coach crashed into a lorry on Mittraphap Road in Nakhon Ratchasima province, leaving multiple passengers injured. The crash, which occurred on the afternoon of 10 March, was the second involving the same group of passengers that day.

 

At approximately 15:30, police and emergency services responded to the scene in Sikhiu district, where a Bangkok-Yasothon coach had collided with the rear of a lorry carrying bricks. The front of the coach was severely damaged, trapping the driver inside with serious injuries. Eleven passengers, five men and six women, were rescued and treated at the roadside for cuts and bruises before being taken to hospital.

 

Rescue teams used hydraulic cutters to free the driver, a man aged between 35 and 40, who suffered severe facial injuries and broken limbs. He was rushed to Sikhiu Hospital for urgent treatment.

 

The lorry, registered in Roi Et province, was driven by 39-year-old Mr. Sakchai Hobangkapka. He told police he had been driving at normal speed when the coach suddenly slammed into the back of his vehicle. CCTV footage from a nearby shop confirmed that the coach had been travelling at speed before impact.

Shockingly, passengers revealed that they had already been involved in a previous crash earlier that morning in Saraburi province. The original coach driver had reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel, causing a minor crash. The passengers were transferred to a replacement vehicle with a new driver, only for it to be involved in this second, more serious collision.

 

The cause of the crash remains under police investigation. Following the incident, Anyanee Wongsa, the head of the Sikhiu district transport office, visited the injured passengers to gather information and coordinate further assistance.

After two accidents I would probably think twice about boarding a third coach.
