A row between a Russian tourist and the wife of a taxi driver in Phuket has captured public attention after a viral video showed an alleged assault during a ride. The clip was shared by the Facebook page "Phuket is so brutal", featuring a 31-year-old Russian woman claiming she was attacked by the driver's wife.

The incident reportedly took place on January 28 and was reported to Chalong police the following day. The Russian passenger had booked the ride via an app from Karon to Choeng Talay but claimed she was assaulted when the driver's wife turned to record her without prior provocation.

Yesterday, on March 11, the driver's wife defended herself on social media, stating she did not assault the Russian woman. She accompanied her husband on the job to learn routes for her own future taxi business.

The wife alleged the Russian passenger brought a box, which emitted a foul smell of dog waste. When queried, the passenger allegedly responded rudely, resulting in a heated exchange. The wife insisted she only swiped at the Russian's phone trying to document the waste, denying any physical assault.

The case drew mixed reactions, with some urging for more clarity on who was truly at fault, while others criticised the professionalism of bringing family members onto taxi shifts. Many called for better cultural understanding and communication in such cross-cultural disputes to prevent similar incidents from escalating, reported The Thaiger.

That was an assault! Not once but twice. The Thai woman needs arrested and never allowed a taxi licence! "This is my country statement" is a very xenophobic statement. Not a great attitude!

What is the wife of the driver doing in the car at all? it´s not a f-ing family business, right?
