A shocking discovery was made in central Phuket when a woman’s body was found on the top of a first-floor canopy, having believed to have fallen from the third floor of a derelict hotel.

The deceased, identified as 44-year-old Ms Ratchanok was a homeless woman known to frequent the abandoned building. Authorities estimate she had been dead for three days before her body was discovered.

The grim find occurred on the evening of 13 March when people on the rooftop of a nearby built spotted the body and alerted the police. The building is located in Phuket’s historic old town, an area popular with locals and tourists.

Police and forensic experts arrived at the scene along with rescue personnel. Initial examinations suggested the woman had fallen from the third-floor of the abandoned hotel, which has been unused since the COVID-19 pandemic and the area is under the jurisdiction of Phuket City Municipality.

A local reported having seen Ms Ratchanok dancing on the third floor of the building three days prior to the discovery of the body.

Her body was sent for autopsy at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the precise cause of death. Police investigations are ongoing to establish whether foul play was involved or if it was accidental.
