Interestingly, there have been several big cannabis busts by UK authorities at Manchester Airport in the north of England with many of the drug couriers arriving from Thailand.

TWO drug mules were caught with 40kg of drugs in their suitcases as they were leaving Manchester Airport after an around-the-world flight.......After hours of air miles from Thailand and a connection in France, the duo were rumbled, and they later admitted a charge of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of cannabis.

Last year 26,924kg of cannabis was seized from around 750 smugglers flying into UK airports. This quantity is nearly five times more than the 5,609kg of cannabis seized for the whole of 2023, when 134 suspects were arrested.............In 2024, 430 suspects were arrested at Heathrow Airport where 14,617kg of cannabis was seized. The next worst affected airports were Manchester Airport, where around 135 arrests were made and 4,815kg of cannabis seized, and Birmingham Airport, where 40 arrests were made and 1,410kg cannabis seized..............Of the suspects, 460 were arrested having arrived from Thailand;

Anyway yes, it's a good thing these people are getting caught here in Singapore. They will have a shorter time in jail for these crimes in Singapore, but then they may have a shorter time on tis earth.

Wonder how they arrested them at the airport as not loads of security people around in samui really so would be possible to do a runner , although guess still would have details when they checked in who they were.

Wonder if they arrested them all waiting at the gate or at the point where they ask you to wait to see if your luggage appears on the screen.

I suspect that is why the 'cunning plan' to arrive into UK from Singapore, with its notoriously strict drug laws.

Knew a guy once back in the 90's who was in a Northern border town, Mai Hong Son or Pai maybe and a friendly Thai with a 4x4 asked if he wanted to join for a trip into the hills. Next thing he knows there's Burmese loading kilos of smack onto the jeep and he realises he's the fall guy for a cross-border smuggling trip. Terrified. Last I heard he was run over and killed by a minibus in Bangkok..
