Iranian tourist goes crazy! Uses syringe to stab hotel staff in Phuket

Its frightening to consider what 'might' be on that needle (i.e. HIV etc)...  Hopefully it was just a clean needle...

Nevertheless, this physical assault needs to be dealt with firmly - Criminal Assault charges filed and due process...

... the issue of course is that such attacks are usually considered 'minor' and punished minimally.

In the wake of this unsettling event, it has been reported that the Iranian Embassy has been contacted to facilitate further actions regarding the case. The embassy's involvement will be crucial for ensuring due diplomatic processes are followed and any legal implications are addressed appropriately.

Thais must be getting a little jittery when dealing with the Iranians.

And how might that happen?

They might want to examine what had been in that syringe, it's not something a normal tourist would posses so I'm assuming he was drugged up to the eyeballs.

It looks as if he is just another YOUTUBER:

You can see that he has moved a table out onto the balcony, in order to hold his computer, so that he can...

Do his video editing work, before uploading to YT.

Also, probably just a bit of disorientation due to minor sunstroke, or heat exhaustion.

Would be my concern too...

make sure the Hotel Rules includes keeping your hypodermic needles capped at all times.

Sherlock, is that you? Seriously, your powers of deduction are immense - hell, you even helped me to understand that I am a YouTuber, I never knew. Thank you 🤪

I have lived in Thailand for almost forty years.  I have a wonderful Thai family and many Thai friends.  Yet, when I read some of the posts on this forum which was originally designed to inform foreigners and make life easier for them to live here, I see many of the same people posting hateful and insulting comments about Thailand and Thai people.  Why?  If you are that miserable and have such a strong dislike of Thailand and Thais why do you stay?  Please either take your intolerance and hate back to your home countries or refrain from making vile and unhelpful comments.

Thailand is my chosen home and when you insult the country and its people you are insulting my family and friends.  Go away or shut up!

Thank you

Maybe you're taking the comments too personally. I've lived here since 1984. I attribute the rude comments about Thais and Thailand to foreigners who are unhappy for whatever reason. Perhaps ask God to bless them and help them to find happiness and see the beauty in people, instead of telling the foreigners to ...

An alarming incident unfolded this evening in Phuket, as an Iranian tourist, Mr Reza, launched a frenzied attack using a syringe on hotel staff in the Karon subdistrict. The event prompted a swift response from local police who were notified of the ongoing threat at approximately 6:11 p.m.

The tourist, identified as 44-year-old Reza, was reportedly causing chaos at the hotel when law enforcement arrived on the scene. Initial attempts by the officers to control the situation included efforts to negotiate with Reza, which proved to be ineffective.

As tensions escalated, the authorities deemed it necessary to deploy a more direct intervention, resulting in the use of a Taser to subdue him. The electric shock administered caused minor injuries but was sufficient to bring the frantic episode under control.

Following the incident, personnel from the Karon Municipality Rescue Centre provided immediate medical attention to Reza, addressing any injuries sustained during his restraint. Subsequently, he was escorted to the local police station, where he was kept under observation and questioned to establish the factors leading to his outrageous behaviour.

One pressing line of inquiry is whether the tourist's actions were influenced by substance use. Authorities are investigating if drugs played a part in Reza's aggressive outburst, yet no conclusive details have emerged as of now.

In the wake of this unsettling event, it has been reported that the Iranian Embassy has been contacted to facilitate further actions regarding the case. The embassy's involvement will be crucial for ensuring due diplomatic processes are followed and any legal implications are addressed appropriately.

The shocking attack, which initially sent ripples of fear through both the hotel staff and guests, is now being meticulously examined to prevent any recurrence.

Hotel management is liaising with local police, reaffirming their commitment to the safety of both employees and patrons, while law enforcement is heightening its vigilance in popular tourist areas to safeguard against similar incidents.

The local community remains on edge as residents and tourists alike process the surreal occurrence. Discussions on enhancing security measures continue, aiming to strike a balance between Phuket's vibrant tourism appeal and the essential need for safety and reassurance among all who visit the island.

As investigations progress, further details are anticipated to surface, painting a clearer picture of the motives and circumstances that culminated in this startling event, reported Amarin TV.

While I agree with you somewhat, what does an Iranian have to do with Thai people?

What does "an Iranian" have to do with rwill's comment that didn't mention them?

a lot of westerners have a superiority complex. thats why they're always talking negatively about thais.

most thais are nice people.

I think it is due to Personality Disorder, which we know is rampant among the western visitors who are here, short time.

If they are able to last in Asia for over 45 years, then we can safely say that they are OK.
