Police Raid Fake Bearing Manufacturer, Over 6 Million Worth of Counterfeit Parts Seized
Picture courtesy of Matichon. Authorities have raided two locations linked to the production and distribution of counterfeit industrial bearings, uncovering a large stockpile of fake parts with an estimated value of over 6 million baht. Officials warn that the counterfeit components could pose serious safety risks if used in vehicles and industrial machinery. At 09:30 on 21 March, the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property, held a press conference detailing the operation. The raids followed an investigation initiated after discussions with the World Bearing Association (WBA) on 25 February regarding the growing issue of counterfeit bearings. Authorities explained that bearings are critical components used in car wheels, clutches, axles, engines, elevators, cranes, conveyor belts, and power plant machinery. The use of substandard, counterfeit bearings could lead to mechanical failures and serious accidents, endangering both lives and property. Following extensive surveillance, police executed court-issued search warrants at two locations: • First Raid – Nakhon Pathom Province: Officers raided a warehouse in Tha Phraya Subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si District, arresting Teerawit 32. He was charged with possessing counterfeit trademarked goods for sale, a violation of Thailand’s intellectual property laws. Police confiscated 1,821 fake KOYO-brand bearings. • Second Raid – Bangkok: A second operation targeted a storage facility in Lat Phrao District. Officers arrested Laddawan 60, on identical charges. Investigators seized 2,535 counterfeit SKF-brand bearings. In total, police seized 4,356 fake bearings from the two locations, with an estimated value of 6,120,000 baht. Investigators determined that the counterfeit parts were imported from China, falsely labelled as genuine. Authorities suspect possible involvement of government officials in the scheme, as evidence suggests fraudulent documentation was used during customs clearance. The investigation is now being expanded to identify further individuals linked to the counterfeit operation. Both suspects have been taken into custody and will face prosecution under Thailand’s intellectual property laws. Meanwhile, authorities are urging businesses and consumers to be vigilant when purchasing automotive and industrial components, warning of the potential dangers of counterfeit goods. -- 2025-03-22 -

Russell Brand Duped by Hoax Claiming British Sitcom Star Killed JFK
Russell Brand recently fell for a bizarre hoax suggesting that British actress Penelope Keith was responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The comedian and actor shared a now-deleted post on X, quoting what he believed to be an FBI document from the latest release of classified JFK files. The fake document stated: “We are sure, without uncertainty, that the assassination of President Kennedy was NOT carried out by Mr. Lee Harvey Oswald or any member of any organized crime syndicate.” The document then made the shocking claim that “The lone shooter in Dallas, Texas on 22 November 1963 was Miss Penelope Keith, star of the BBC television program The Good Life.” Brand swiftly deleted the post, but not before social media users had a field day with the absurdity of the claim. One user commented, “This is perhaps the funniest thing in the history of the internet.” Another joked, “She killed him with that withering look she was known for, right across the pond. Deadly!” While conspiracy theories surrounding JFK’s assassination have persisted for over six decades, the official narrative has always pointed to Lee Harvey Oswald as the lone shooter. This was reaffirmed when the Trump administration released thousands of classified documents on Tuesday, none of which suggested an alternative culprit. Penelope Keith, now 84, is best known for her roles in classic British sitcoms such as The Good Life and To The Manor Born. She was made a dame in 2014 for her contributions to drama and charity work. She has yet to comment on the hoax that unexpectedly thrust her into the realm of American conspiracy theories. Brand, however, did not stop at sharing misinformation about Keith. In another post that remains on X, he shared a separate document allegedly showing a letter from John F. Kennedy Jr. to President Joe Biden, accusing Biden of being a “traitor.” Brand wrote, “WAIT!! Did JFK Jr. warn us that Joe Biden was a traitor to America before he was killed!?” However, this document was not part of the FBI’s newly released JFK files but originated from an entirely different FBI investigation into death threats against Biden. This latest controversy comes amid legal troubles for Brand. In February, he was sued in the U.K. over allegations of sexual abuse, following a similar lawsuit in the U.S. late last year. He has denied all accusations against him. Based on a report by The Daily Beast 2025-03-22 -

Murder-Suicide: Husband Kills Wife Before Taking His Own Life, Leaving 7-Year-Old Orphaned
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. A 47-year-old man shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a suspected murder-suicide in Ban Na Doem district, Surat Thani province, in the early hours of the morning of 21 March. The couple’s seven-year-old son is now orphaned. At 03:50, police from Ban Na Doem Police Station, forensic officers, and emergency responders were called to a single-storey house in a palm plantation in Tha Ruea subdistrict, following reports of a double fatality. In the kitchen, officers found the body of Ms. Sasithorn, 42, lying on the floor in a rubber-tapping work clothes. She had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including one to her back, one to her chest, two on her right arm, and one on her left hand. A rubber-tapping knife and sharpening tools were found nearby. In a bedroom, police discovered the body of her husband, Mr Anu 47, lying on the bed. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the right temple, with a revolver found next to him. The victim’s 67-year-old mother, Mrs. Pornthip, who lived with the couple and their seven-year-old son, recounted that the previous day (20 March), Anu had come to her home to retrieve the revolver he had previously left in her care. He reportedly told her: “If I die, please arrange my funeral.” Mrs. Pornthip explained that her son-in-law had a history of serious health issues, having previously been shot and undergone intestinal surgery. He had also received a synthetic abdominal implant, which had recently caused complications, requiring another expensive surgery costing over 100,000 baht. She believed that financial stress and health problems had pushed him to despair, but she never imagined he would kill her daughter as well. A younger sister of Ms. Sasithorn stated that after Anu had shot his wife, he reportedly called another relative, instructing them to pick up his seven-year-old son, before taking his own life. Police are continuing their investigation while the bodies have been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy. The case has left the local community in shock, with many now concerned for the welfare of the orphaned child. -- 2025-03-22
