Meanwhile Tesla stock is on the rebound (+5.27%) and BYD share is down 7% with a debt of US$7.04 billion. Just to mention that Warren Buffet sold his <5% ownership in BYD due to its ballooning debt.

The total debt/equity ratio for Tesla is 10.7%  while BYD’s is 29.26%.

Huge advantage for Tesla which is not overly reliant on borrowed money to finance its operations. Its debt is well covered by operating cash flow (189.4%) while BYD debt coverage is 62.1% only.

Tesla balance sheet is very strong. Once it’s driverless automobiles hit the market the stock will be a “darling” of the NASDAQ

Don't believe this for a second as I see a ratio of about 30-1 for BYD cars compared to Tesla when out and about .

Basically the 50 people Tesla sold cars to think Elon musk is a genius and the sun shines out of his rear and they reflected this on the survey.

Tesla's glory days in Thailand are behind it. As per the Fitch report quoted in the Bangkok Press;

- Electric vehicle (EV) sales in Thailand slowed considerably in 2024 

- BYD recently opened its first EV plant in Southeast Asia, located in Rayong. The $486-million facility is expected to employ around 10,000 workers and produce 150,000 vehicles annually.

- GAC Aion, the EV subsidiary of GAC Group, inaugurated its first overseas plant in Thailand.

The new plant has an initial annual production capacity of 50,000 units, with plans to expand to 100,000 units, producing several models such as the second-generation Aion V, Aion Y Plus, and Hyper HT.

- In Pattaya, Toyota launched a pilot programme for its new EV, the Hilux Revo-e, marking the company's first electric pickup, aiming to capture a share of Thailand's significant pickup market, currently dominated by Toyota and Isuzu. Toyota plans to manufacture and export the Hilux Revo-e from Thailand by the end of 2025.

- Isuzu also intends to produce an electric D-Max in Thailand and begin exports in 2025.

 

Thailand will offer subsidies and incentives for Thai built EVs. Tesla won't qualify.

That statistic may be true, or not, however I have seen only a very few in my area, there are quite a few with BYD being the most common. On average I would say that the percentage of tesla’s is under 5% of the electric vehicles I see.

If the US had no tarrifs then imo Tesla would be struggling to compete with the Chinese brands - who are just producing much cheaper, much more efficient cars. 

 

The deal with Tesla, was it became a brand that people got behind - like say Apple. But since Musk has had these sinister moments it's turned off the actual people (tree hugging liberals) that were his market.

I asked Elon's own Grok, and it came back with 'In 2023, Tesla's EV market share was 10.48%, calculated from sales data. I'm double-checking the Thai Embassy figures to ensure accuracy.' lots of babbling after that and Grok concluded: 'The latest search still shows no specific 2024 Tesla sales data for Thailand. I'm finding articles about factory plans, but no local sales figures.'

Sure but hat is not the reason of people choices. Charging at the MG and BYD dealers is not free and any EV Car can use it. 

Then the kWh fee is quite expensive compared to home charging or PTT stations.

 

Thailand lacks big time in high power charging stations, most places and shopping malls offer that mediocre 7kW charging speed, and a few if lucky 11kW. Most chargers at gas stations are capped at 40kw or 60kw if there are 2 or more cars. the highest you can get is 80kW when nobody is charging in the station.

 

At least we should have 100 to 150kW charging speeds available without reducing power. IF PTT had a 600kW charging capacity per station, they could have 4 slots at each 150kW or 6x100kW, that would be game changer!

And buying a Tesla could be a very good deal in Thailand.

This is not true. Chinese cars are better and cheaper. Everyone hates Leon Musk. In Europe sales of Tesla is down 50 to 95 %. 

Tesla has a lot of problems also with their cars.

Charging at 115 kWh is quite easy at PTT, PT and Bangchak .

Interesting! is that all stations or only some? which part of Thailand?

I have never seen any station that can do more than 80kWh, maybe because I only use travel central and southern Thailand on EV car.

Probably not all but I would say most, i have had those results in Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan, Kaempang Phet, Lampang, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.

 

Oh and i forgot to add PEA Volta to my previous list, but will admit PEA Volta have many 50 kWh chargers.

 

Even so, here’s the map of PEA Volta DC chargers over 120 kWh.
