A German national lost control of his BMW in the early hours of the morning of 22 March, careering across the central reservation and crashing into parked pickup trucks in Rawai, causing significant damage to vehicles and roadside property.

The crash occurred at approximately 04:00, in front of the Siamchai store, opposite Suksan 1 Alley on Wiset Road. Police from Chalong Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Prasit Rahob, arrived at the scene to investigate.

The vehicle involved was a BMW with Phuket registration, driven by Mr. Moritz Harald Hick, a 24-year-old German national. His passenger, Mr. Anton Augsten, also 24 and German, sustained injuries. Emergency services transported both to Chalong Hospital for treatment.

The impact severely damaged two Isuzu D-Max pickup trucks belonging to Siamchai, a local business. The trucks were parked outside the store at the time of the crash. In addition, a large road sign, the Siamchai storefront sign, and other property sustained damage.

According to witnesses, the BMW was travelling at high speed from Suksan 1 Alley when it reached the intersection. Instead of braking and turning left as expected, the vehicle ploughed straight across the central reservation into the opposite lane, slamming into the parked vehicles.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances of the crash, including whether speeding, reckless driving, or other factors, alcohol or drugs contributed to the incident. Given the early hour, it was lucky no other injuries were reported, but the damage to vehicles and property is substantial.

Police will interview the driver once he is discharged from the hospital to determine possible legal consequences.

It practically flew over the central reservation as shown on tv. Unbelievable that they weren’t injured!

It would be interesting to know how the investigations will proceed and what sanctions will be applied to a case like this, where miraculously, despite an absurd speed, there were no victims.

Unless, of course, as often happens around here, this poor driver too had the usual brake failure.......

No doubt nothing wrong happened and he just made a mistake while driving to 7-11 at 4am 🙄

They built the best cars in the world. But you have to be able to handle them.

This guy here can't.🤣

I was just saying this morning before I saw this article that the worst drivers in phuket are the Ford Rangers and BMW drivers.    As a Ford Ranger sped past me on my walk.  😂

Shut up I have a Ford ranger listen it can be an old little Chevrolet it can be a rusty old smokey old little two-door Toyota. I thought people in the South don't even bother with Fords

A troll post breaking forum rules has been removed.

@arick this is the Phuket regional news section and if you don’t want to read it move on to another topic. Don’t post a disguised attack on the news team and article, you have been warned before and if you repeat again expect a suspension.

You are correct and you are probably one of the safe drivers.  I'm not sure, but I think the engine in the new Ford Rangers are very strong and the owners in my housing estate drive fast, are irresponsible and have no regard to elderly, children, babies and pets.   I actually had a Ford Ranger many many years ago.  It was smaller, reliable and didn't go so fast.  I'm pretty sure it was stick shift too. Not sure why (not you) these people have to speed and go so fast.   usually BMW and Ford Ranger drivers, but a lot of others too.   What I said was sort of a joke.

Have they taken over from the Fortuna Flyers then?

Looks like it kept ascending, to end up on top of the old wagon? Talk about forced entry!

I’m surprised they didn’t suspect brake failure first, or is that a reserved option for Thai drivers only 😬

Only after making sufficient compensation to all the victims of the property damages.

Came for holiday, ended up as the heavy debtors(unless they are billionaires).

Perfect example of the case proving Drink and drive don't mix.

bout 1.5 mill in damages... at the most not inc personal injury.

A pathetic effort by German 'juveniles' who clearly should not be allowed to ride/drive in anything more powerful than a toy pedal car.

My thought as well when I read the time of the accident - 04.00am! (alcohol and/or drugs)

Let's see. Speeding. Check. Failure to slow down at the intersection. Check . Reckless driving. Check. Under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Check. Immature/ narcissistic twenty something  youth. Check. Did I miss anything???

They WERE injured if you read the story!!!:-

"The vehicle involved was a BMW with Phuket registration, driven by Mr. Moritz Harald Hick, a 24-year-old German national. His passenger, Mr. Anton Augsten, also 24 and German, sustained injuries. Emergency services transported both to Chalong Hospital for treatment."

Any modern car can go too fast for the road it’s being driven on, and most old cars can too. It’s the driver that determines the speed, not the car

The actual result of the drug/alcohol tests, rather than your assumption?

That’s what I said.  The drivers of the car.   Luckily he didn’t hit a couple of motor bikes.  Usually there are a lot on that road and intersection.

My first thoughts too...  in fact my only thought...     Utter idiots drink driving and speeding...

Luckily no-one was killed....     Was the driver breathalysed ?....   If over will their insurance cover all the 3rd part costs ???

I agree with the 'Charge them' - usually for reckless driving' which actually doesn't come with much of a penalty.... and the deport them part... but thats an extra penalty than the Thai's would receive...

So... when so many Thai's end up in similar situations for similar reasons - should foreigners receive the same penalties or worse ?

I'm sure the forums cockroach drink driver will be along to state it wasn't drink driving thats a problem but speed...    and that drink driving wasn't reported so it can't be that...

... Though given the time - I'm quite sure drink driving 'was a major factor'...

The passenger was a victim.  What was the "absurd speed"?
