Relationship advice / your experiences - No card or gift

OP, the remembering of birthdays, anniversaries etc were never important for my Thai wife in the early days of our marriage....  Nobody in her family ever really recognises these dates as significant. After 20 years and two children, her feelings and outlook changed and she enjoys the celebrations and giving to family and friends. I still have to remind her of ALL dates however.

  • Not sure what your plan now is, but an angry outburst is probably the worst way possible for you to handle the situation.

Have you considered asking her? Maybe even telling her how this makes you feel?

Communication, communication, communication. That ends up being my answer every time, why can I not retain it. So I had my little hissy fit with her and explained to her that my feelings were hurt. She said oh my God I had no idea. Again, everyday is Christmas. Everyday is Valentine's Day. So  on our anniversary she comes home with the bouquet of flowers, pink, to stick it in my arse, comical, and says I got your favorite color pink. Too funny. Of course she got her card, and a necklace earring set, no big expense there. Needless to say, the answer was right there, communication, communication, communication. I want to thank all of you for your feedback, and your thoughts. I would say, if someone loves you, and you ask them to celebrate an event with a 20-baht card from 7-Eleven or a flower, and you tell them it's important, and they ignore your feelings, then there is something wrong with that kind of relationship. Cheers and be well, thanks again.

How did you two meet?

In the lobby of my condo. She was waiting for a customer, no, not that kind of customer, and I fell in love with her, that very minute.

Some people are givers and some aren't, yet give in other ways besides gifts and money. Some find it hard to accept gifts because they were never treated well before and saw little in the way of affection. I've been in relationships where the woman never or rarely saw any good treatment, or were downright abused, and for them to accept different takes a long, long time, especially if they were mistreated by their own fathers. People can get used to anything eventually, living in their own prisons with no thoughts of how to escape. If she treats you well, that's your gift from her. You might like giving small gifts, and her keeping them , especially in the open, shows they means something to her. Everyone is different on how they relate to others, and it all starts watching their parents as children.

If my wife see's me working in the kitchen, ie preparing food, she always stops me then does it for me. Every so often when she arrives home she will bring me some kind of sweet that she knows that I like.

If you are good to them, they have their ways of satisfying you.
