I am doing a visa run to Pendang Besar with a friend and he is wondering if his Thai Lady needs a passport or day pass to accompany him just to do the visa run. If she can not go he is happy to leave her in Hat Yai for a couple of hours whilst he goes with me for the run. Does anyone know if she can go or how much it will cost. Her province of origin in the Korat area. Thanks.

Do not believe she could obtain a day pass to visit Pedang Besar as per Malaysia immigration site they are restricted to residents of the border area. Which would mean she would require a passport. But perhaps someone with experience can say otherwise? I have never crossed there but am sure there is a place to eat on the Thai side that she could wait if uncomfortable staying in Hat Yai.

She would need a passport which would then grant her a one-month entry to Malaysia (not that she would need one month for what you are doing!).

Hi,

Border Pass can only be issued to Thai nationals, residing in border states next to Malaysia.

This Thai border pass is issued to Thai nationals by the Thai Immigration...... valid for only seven days stay in Malaysia.

Same procedure for Malaysians who are residing next to Thai/Malaysia bordering states. Malaysian border pass for Malaysian visitors

are issued by the Malaysian Immigration....... also valid for seven days stay.

For Passport holders for both sides......... a 30 days visa is given at the Immigration border checkpoints for Thai and Malaysian visitors.

In your girl's case, Korat is not a border state next to Malaysia. She definitely needs a passport.

Normally all Thai nationals are given 30 days visa on arrival at Malaysian Immigration.

However, the Malaysian authorities are very careful/strict on young Thai girls coming over as ' bona fide ' visitors.

Even with their passports, they could be given a 7 days or 14 days visa, as the case may be.

For my case, I am residing in a border state, next to Thailand. My Malaysian border pass is valid for six months,

but when I go in, the Thai Immigration would give me a 7 days visa. That is to say, I could do a visa run every 7 days.

If I choose to stay longer, then I could use my passport instead.

I did that run last year. Plane to Hat Yai, taxi from airport to the border. Lady stays in the taxi at the boarder for all of 10 mins back in taxi to airport. Easy as that, no bother what so ever. Leave your lady in the taxi, or get her some pok pok to eat at roadside dinner haha. By the time she's finished you'll be back.

Hi teacher

Good for you. I am just curious to ask you this.

You did your visa run successfully at the Danok/Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint.

I am fully aware that you did clear the Thai (Danok) immigration checkpoint..........

that is to say ........ first out and then in again to get your 30days or 60days visa

or as the case may be. The question I want to ask is this. The Malaysian Immigration

is a about a half kilometer from the Thai side. Is it necessary, or it is not necessary

as a ' rule of thumb' that you must also clear the Malaysian Immigration to complete

the visa run. Thanks.

Now, I have a better suggestion if your girlfriend is with you. There are a few small

restaurants serving Thai/Chinese food in Danok. She could order a plate of fried rice.....

and sit there comfortably and before she finishes her food, you will be back. It is not

advisable to leave her alone in a Thai taxi and especially if you are a foreigner. I am a regular

traveller from Malaysia to Hatyai. Anything can happen. Personally, I would prefer to travel

by the Thai air-con van (9 passegers/45bhat per person)....... from Hatyai main market.

In Danok, the air-con van service is right in front of the 7 Eleven. Moves about every 15 minutes

or so. Journey about one hour, more or less. Normally I park my car at the Malaysian side,

Changloon town, parking facilities provided for a fee. Then I take a cab to the Bukit Kayu Hitam/Danok

immigration (about 10km away). Then I go for the air-con van service. Sometimes, I drive my car in,

and I have to purchase a Third Party (Thai) Motor Insurance policy...... for one week, or 6 mothhs or

one year, as you wish. This insurance policy covers the 'death' of the Thai national (in case of an accident)

and it does not cover the loss, damages, theft of my car and so on. Some procedures apply to Thai nationals

who travels to Malaysia.
