This is safe?

Wouldn't pay 5 baht to own a condo in Bangkok now.

again just water splashed over the top. Maybe the structure of the building is ruined but I think it's too early to know. Obviously they need to do extensive audits of the damage and see what's actually happened.

Somehow you missed skywalk being completely detached and building swaying like it's about to collapse?

I'm sure the structural damage will be minimal....officially.

I think this video better represents the shoddy Thai condo construction. It's from "threads" so not sure if the link will show properly

Besides that one building under construction which went down all the rest look like they held up pretty good no? I see the videos of the water from pools splashing over the top but that's to be expected.

Not sure if it’s the same condo but this one took some heavy damage due to the skybridges  (sorry….can’t embed Facebook videos)

Just found this video on FB, looks like someone knew it would come down, as he focused on the building quite a while before it imploded.

The earthquake obviously had happened and the crane on top of the building was behaving erratically.

Just listen to what the guy with the phone camera says: he is alarmed by the woman to the fact that the building is swaying, you can see the hook of the crane move.

After the building swayed for a few moments, commented as such by the guy with the camera, you can hear the inner column structure break before the building collapses.

Now imagine the potential structural damage you do not see and for which you need to dig up the fpoundations and check the internal static elements, if walls got bent that much, that covering elements were popped off.

I guess a lot of people owning expensive condos will be left with literally zilch. 😱😢

Tofu-dreg now also in Thailand? 😆

Anyhow, strongest earthquake, I ever experienced. Strangely, the two earthquakes in my life I felt, both happened in SE Asia. (Even though, I've been to NZ and Japan...)

I've been in one very strong earthquake in NZ in the 80s. I was at work having tea break and the earth moved for several minutes. I thought at the time that if it was a fun park I'd pay to go on a ride like that. Luckily, no damage occurred ( except to a high concrete chimney which was replaced by a steel one ) and no injuries resulted.

Looks more like the facade wasn't stuck on very well.

I'm not claiming to be a structural engineer, but shouldn't there be stronger rebar in that column? One can see that the column has reduced in height ( the rebar has bowed out ), which puts the floor above in danger.

Expand

There are of course other load bearing columns, but also a lot of weight to hold up.

It was so poorly built it literally imploded and came down on itself. Pure panic right now throughout Bangkok. Getting close to grid lock as parents rush to pick up children from schools, get home, and for some just flee.

Pretty much every single building has some minor damage. Mostly cracked mortar and tiles peeling off or staying in place, but cracking.

It will be busy days at Thai Watsadu or Boonthavorn.
