A tragic incident unfolded on March 26 when a gunman, suspected of mistaking a fellow hunter for wildlife, fatally shot 31-year-old Chaiwat in a dense forest area near the border between Mueang Paeng subdistrict, Pai district, and Huai Poo Ling subdistrict, Mueang Mae Hong Son district. Following the incident, the gunman, identified as Preecha, surrendered to authorities.

Chaiwat's relatives discovered his body, which had two bullet wounds in the left arm and three in the left chest, in the forest after he failed to return home from a hunting trip. His body was taken to Village 3, Ban Huai Ha, in Mueang Paeng subdistrict before police were notified.

Investigators revealed that Chaiwat left home with a shotgun to hunt on March 25. Concern grew when his father, Thong, reported him missing the next day, prompting a family search. The relatives also submitted a 12-gauge shotgun and cartridges found at the scene for examination, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.

Bloodstains and scatterings of shotgun pellets at the scene pointed to a violent encounter, leading investigators to question the cause and movement of Chaiwat's body before their arrival.

During the morning following the incident, Police Colonel Pasawin Kaewtai, head of Pai Provincial Police Station, was informed of Preecha's surrender facilitated by a local village headman. It is speculated that both men were hunting together and that Preecha may have accidentally shot Chaiwat, mistaking him for an animal.

Chaiwat's body is currently undergoing a thorough autopsy at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, while Preecha is being held for questioning to clarify the details surrounding the fatal incident.

The case remains under investigation as police seek to understand the exact circumstances that led to the shooting, aiming to resolve any uncertainties about the tragic mistake, reported The Thaiger.

Probably five pellets from a shotgun but they think bullet is the appropriate term to use.

Aha, you could right.

Not a complete tragedy as he had just taken out a 100 million baht life assurance policy on his friend?
