Canadian Tourist Fined for Spray-Painting Graffiti on Pattaya Electrical Boxes

A 54-year-old Canadian tourist has been apprehended and fined after vandalising electrical boxes across Pattaya with spray paint, graffiti. The incident, which sparked widespread criticism on social media, prompted local authorities to take swift action.

 

The case gained attention after the Facebook page Sai Trong Nayok Beer posted a message calling for the individual to be identified, highlighting concerns over inappropriate behaviour. Pattaya Mayor coordinated with the city’s police chief to track down the suspect and ensure legal action was taken.

 

At approximately 22:30 on 29 March, Pattaya Police Chief Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, along with officers from the tourist police and city officials, located and detained the Canadian national at Thepprasit Housing Market. The suspect reportedly apologised to the authorities and pledged to clean the electrical boxes he had defaced.

 

As an initial penalty, Pattaya municipal officers fined the tourist 5,000 baht. He was then transferred to Pattaya City Police Station, where officers recorded the incident while awaiting a formal complaint from the electricity authority. Officials have stated that they intend to pursue the case seriously to deter other tourists from engaging in similar acts of vandalism.

Sometimes it appears that yes, they do. Same in assault cases, when they have ample evidence without a formal complaint. Could it be a position of laziness or lethargy?
