Actually, my Thai friends here in Thailand are very impressed with the fact that President Trump has the guts and godads to finally stand up to counties like Thailand that impose inordinate tariffs on American goods imported to Thailand. They tell me that old Biden allowed Thailand to abuse the U.S. with its tariffs. These Thai friends also buy goods from the U.S. and are forced to pay upwards of 100% tariffs on these goods. So my Thai friends are impressed and my status as an American has been elevated. MAGA

At least one person in the worlds status has to be elevated although I do believe you just made all that up how in anyway will increased import tariffs make it cheaper for someone in thailand to buy American goods? The import duties after thailand inevitably raises it's own tariffs will be passed onto all your thai friends the consumers so sorry for calling BS

Well your opinions have been shown to be completely wrong. The biggest crash in the US markets totally fuelled by trump, the previous 2 giant falls were the subprime crash (no single institution or person caused it) and the COVID crash. Trump has turned a booming economy into an almost recession, it has fallen by between 15% and 20%.  by next week it maybe a full blown recession. 

Trade patterns are not changing overnight but in a couple of months or weeks. Canada heavy crude is now going to go to China as well as LNG

the US had an almost monopoly on Canadian oil exports. That is just one example.

 

Trump has single-handedly wipe out decades of good will and friendly relationships that probably will not recover for many years if they ever do.

He has proved that the USA is not trustworthy and that legacy will tarnish its reputation and influence permanently.

the S&P is down 15%

the Dow is down 19%

the NAS100 is down 18%

so a small market correction???

This is showing how true that influence is. By next week he will probably have single handedly turned a long term bull market into a a bear market

Whatever label you want to put on it doesn't much matter.  Stock valuations were way out oof line with reality and now they're adjusting.  Long term, people will have still made huge gains.  The [rice drop was just a matter of time.

Another thought that occurs to me that goes beyond Thailand.

You know how different countries acquire national stereotypes.

Fairly or not. It doesn't matter. It's a reality.

Americans have that -- loud, arrogant, tendency to think that the entire world is supposed to run like back home "I have my rights" Karen type of idiocy.

What will an insane self destructive government that voluntarily is exiting polite world society do to these stereotypes.

I'm thinking of things like how landlords might stereotype applicants based on national stereotypes. Like knee jerk feelings that a Swiss applicant is a much better bet than a Colombian. 

Just thinking out loud here. I don't know the answer. But it does seem to me that this new end of traditional role of America for decades now might bleed into typical stereotypes of Americans. Of course the current stereotype isn't the best, but there's always room to get worse.

Utterly irrelevant to the post. We are ALL here by choice. That does NOT relieve the Thai government from fair taxation and fair treatment of those who want to retire here. Nothing is being taken out of their economy and we are pumping massive amounts of cash into that economy. No one is under the delusion that they would be "missed". The simple truth is that we benefit them by our presence.

I am not aware of a single country or Government that has special policies designed to favour immigrants which you are one like everyone else that stays long term in Thailand

It's the same cost whether you're an expat or a Thai. If you choose to buy western products, that's on you. You don't have to buy steak, wine and cheese to live here.

Well said. I have zero sympathy for any farang that wants to live in Thailand in the same style ( or better ) than they could back home for a much larger cost. Want to live only eating the same food as back home, and don't like that it's expensive- boo hoo, go back home then.

The Thai  Government is treating you the same as anyone living or visting Thailand including Thai nationals

upto 400% tariffs on imported  wine is a good example

No I did not just realise that. Nor did I say that.

Whatever the reactions to Americans due to the Trump tariff, etc. effect there is no doubt it will be much less of an issue in Thailand compared to Europe.

Could be but would not be a reasonable reaction. Overseas visitors bring in hard currency which every country wants. Try to be smart and ban people will not do the country any favours.
