Is Viber still a thing ?

Yeah, I've been using Viber for at least seven years to call back to Australia. Pay a subscription of about $5 AUD a month.

I haven’t used it for years, most of my contacts that I need to call are on either messenger or WhatsApp, never paid for Viber either… the world keeps on a changing.

Is there a time limit on calls for the month or as long as you like.

I'm planning to use mytello when my skype credit runs out

Your Skype credit will transfer to Teams with the same Microsoft ID and you can make calls and (I think) send SMS's from there - the main issue teams have is you can't have a Skype Number so someone can call or SMS you which is the main reason I am looking for something else, I will use Teams until I burn up my remaining Skype credit got about 20$ on there that should last me a year or two the amount of landlines I call

To call people whom I don't have on WhatsApp, LINE or WeChat, I use a VOIP app. ChipButty mentioned one above, and there are many others. VOIP calls can be made to both landlines and and mobile phones. The other party does not need any app to receive the call. Personally, I am subscribed to Nonoh and VoipDiscount.

Not aware of any limits. But I only use it a couple of times a month so unlikely to ever encounter a limit.

Yes, many people in Australians use it for free domestic audio calls / video calls.

I used it many times or calls . video calls from / to Thailand but have to check in advance that the other party has Viber.

Same comment for LINE. I was back in Oz a few years back for a while, I frequently used LINE for calls / video calls to / from Thailand.

Timely topic and hopefullly will solve a dilemma that seems to of come out of the quake.  The VOIP  hardware died.

Have used Vonage for over 20 years, carrying the little modem and plugging in to a local internet supplied router in whatever country. Attach a telephone and using my US telephone number registered with Vonage - have used when in many countries worldwide. Excellent call quality - outgoing and incoming.

So that was the good news, until now when the Vonage modem fried and need of a replacement.  They only ship to a US address. Their support India based and despite offering them to ship to Thailand on my UPS or Fedex account - the ONLY solution - ship replacment modem to my US mailing  address.  Once delivered I have to ship from US to Thailand.  With luck I'll have a new modem within a month.

A long tale to say it's great service when all is working.  Cusstomer support on the other hand, like so many Customer Supporst offered by businesses - totallly abysmal and as near to useless as possible.

Thanks to others here for the recommends.

I just use Whats app or Facebook, I call the UK at least once a week,

That is simply not a helpful reply for the question the OP had. It is very difficult to get through to Wells Fargo customer service using Whatsapp.

I use Fanytel. Their prices are reasonable for incoming and outgoing calls internationally, and they also have incoming and outgoing SMS which can be very convenient. Plus you're able to get a dedicated phone number.

Correct me if I am wrong, but info I have says that the person you are calling must be on Teams as well. This is why I am not bothering with it.

Teams is set up for businesses not for personal calls as was Skype. I consider it a really bad move on behalf of Microsoft to alienate personal calls.

So I assume you must have researched this and come to this conclusion? I was going to look into switching over to teams but if it's business only then it's nearly useless. That would be very typical of Microsoft.

I loved Skype. I had a dedicated number for incoming and outgoing calls and I was able to call the US unlimited for $60 a year which was great. The only thing that's always been missing from Skype was voicemail.
