Don't structure your life around consumption. Move to an area without lots of things to buy and try to find some meaning in life besides buying things. If you want a nice meal out make that a special occasion and fill your day with other things.

Very true

I am although fascinated when people talk brand name like Honda or ray bands, meaning they need to buy these materials instead of just a non brand product

One of the posters here Quake a 23yo war veteran said he buys brands, I wonder why

See many of you are forgetting the "core " of the subject

If an Australian old age pensioner can live in 42,000 baht in Australia

Tell me why he can't in Pattaya???

And indeed the UK old age pension, how much is that currently?

I live under my means. Yes easily under 40K but I own a condo. If I had to pay rent for the same condo my spending would be over 40K  but not by much. I don't keep any kind of budget as for me it's totally unnecessary so why bother.

99 breakfast? Why would someone living here go out for breakfast in the first place? Eat breakfast at home.

As far as doing nightlife like a two week millionaire tourist, of course that would cost a fortune. If that's really what a person thinks they really will want to do after living even in Pattaya for several years, then of course they should have much much more money.

But I think that naturally most people aren't that insane and won't have any desire to live like that.

In my own case I do spend a lot more than most long term expats on food. Living only on cheap Thai street food would be hell for me. So I don't

So why live in Pattaya if you're not a sexpat?

Lots of reasons.

In any case, Pattaya isn't for everyone. Thailand isn't for everyone. Retiring abroad isn't for everyone. Heck -- retiring at all isn't even for everyone. Most people in the world can't afford to ever retire at all. So if you have 40K to retire in Thailand, condider yourself lucky

So no bars for you .

Actually not. But not because of what they cost. Because not interested.

If I did want that I openly admit I would need to limit that to keep living within my means.

3. The real killer is the booze and ladies. If you are married and a tee-totaller, then fine, but even being married can cost a lot more than you think. If you are single and rent not buy, then avoid the yellow fever changing ladies every day or two MO.

.

Jump on TF... find a mid 30's lass that can  CCF&M... move her in for 10k a month.

Does Australia only pay 40,000K per month at 67?  That's not much.

It used to be a good pension, but the AUD has crashed by 20-25% in the past year or 2 (28bht to 22bht). In that same time period the GBP sunk from 50 to 44bht (12%)

No idea why the AUD is doing so much worse than the GBP?

So the UK pension is basically the same?

At around 40-45k a month

So if old Reg from Yorkshire can live on that in Sheffield why can't old Reg live in Pattaya on that ?

Oh please stop being so negative
