Possibly… though I did frequent Amsterdam (where the weed is very potent too) a lot in my younger years and I don't recall such incidents occurring. Maybe the heat is also a contributing factor…

yeah... in Thailand people try to use the cannabis as an excuse. Weed, no matter the potency, will not make these people do the things they have been doing. There is some other cause either mental or another type of drug being induced.

Weed tends to create a more euphoric sense then an aggravated one. Passive, not hostile.

By the way he completely failed, probably an American 😁

From the video on the Phuket Times he seems to be Russian judging by his accent, definitely not American.

The extremely powerful Cannabis freely available should not be discounted as a possible source. Some Pattaya punter shot himself in the head playing solo "Russian Roulet" while high and drunk.

Nonsense. Cannabis, whatever it's strength, induces calm, not aggression. The story of the russian roulette incident has yet to be clarified however the use of nitrous-oxide, and a Lithuanian's dubious account of the event, are under investigation.

Have you noticed since they allowed pot to be legalised, there seems to be a lot more of these incidents happening. Drugs have ruined Thailand.

The dope available these days is much stronger than the weed around in the early '70s and is quite possibly laced with other stuff ,or taken combined with other drugs, add alcohol  and  before you know it another ASEAN now headline.

I reckon the people who live in Phuket, just like me I live in Pattaya, don't recognise what they read on here. They are isolated incidents, the like of which happen all over the planet. I've said it on here several times, when I lived and worked in Scarborough UK, it was like a war zone late evening on a weekend. I experience nothing like that when I go for a night out in Pattaya.

I live in Phuket and these are  not isolated incidents.

This guy is the type of garbage we don't want here in Phuket this has nothing to do with weed it has everything to do with the type of people getting off the airplanes these Loosers and being allowed in and believe they can do what ever they want let's get rid of those rubbish visas and try to attract a better class of tourists.

Yeah, let's make the retirement extension 2 million baht. Clear out some of the losers.

I visit this forum pretty much daily and there is always some disturbance, accident or assault news in Phuket. Place is a hub of idiocy. I'm really surprised.

The more adventurous among us should count and categorize all the news that "The Tiger" reports out of Phuket. Is it just that Phuket has better coverage? Pattaya is surely home to more disturbed punters making all manner of daily trouble yet Phuket get's all the reports it seems.

Actually I see no difference between Pattaya and Patong. Full of Riff-raff from most parts of the world, not just only Brits. All countries have this trash and it's getting worse..

I agree with the locals. Those foreigners are treated too lightly.

Whatever their state - overnight sobering up in a cell, on the next plane out with a heavy fine extracted from their holiday money.

No excuses!

Deported for life!

Oh dear, oh dear... pretty messy, looks like lunchtime or early afternoon too. When it gets to the point where you get all fisty-cuffs and start running down the road after someone, only to collaspe on the road in a alcoholic mess, then time to go sleep it off muppet.

You are soooo wrong.

Here are some facts about the effects of THC:

First of all, THC causes paranoia.  Paranoia= psychotic disorder characterized by delusions of persecution, irrational distrust, impairment, insanity, and homicidal tendency.

When ISIS and other terrorist groups go on a massacre or suicide bombing, they first get wasted on hashish to create the "mood".

In fact, the word "assassin" comes from Hassasin, smokers of hashish.  They were the original cult of killers out of Persia who regularly used murder as their primary political tool against Arabs, Turks, and Christians.

That was alcohol and NO2. Not weed.

It ised to be confined to pattaya, not anymore. And that's not good...

Patong has long been pretty much the same thing as Pattaya, Soi Cowboy-on-the-beach, such places attract the dregs from all over the world (some good people there too).

From the video posted by The Nation on Facebook, this drunk idiot is wearing a black T-shirt with  Ämerican Eagle" clearly printed across the chest. I think this may give a clue!

Yes, definitely.

Come to Thailand, no money, unemployed, uneducated losers.

The DTA visa is a big mistake but the visa free 60/90 days as well.

Thailand, the hub of riffraff, predominantly farangs.

predominantly farangs? No way...you forgot the arabs and indians

I think this is an accurate account of the situation. When you think how many tourists come to Thailand each year and then figure the time they spend here is free time so they are out and about. Next, how many of them speak Thai and how many are schooled in Thai culture? I think more than a few tourists get consumed by the the party atmosphere and then anything goes. People probably get more intoxicated than usual and find it harder to contain themselves. One problem I have experienced is that when drinking in Thailand with a few people at a table, the staff keep topping off the beer glasses and if you are talking and having fun, it becomes difficult to enumerate how much you have had to drink. I think in some western countries the bar owners would be held complicit.

Next factor is how many mishaps other countries that are tourist destinations have and then extrapolate whether or not the incidents reported in ASEANOW are are unusually  high for the volume of people that cross the Thai border each year.

I enjoy reading ASEANOW but I must question a matter of sensationalism at work. I recently answered a survey upon request by ASEANOW and I commented that there were too many crime stories.  That is why I find Jesimps post to be (if you don't mind a Yank borrowing a Brit/Aussie phrase) SPOT ON.

I mentioned this issue in another thread today. This guy clearly has mental health issues. This is not an "unruly farang" problem, these people are going nuts. Why are there so many, all of a sudden? It didn't use to be like that (I don't buy the "it wasn't reported before" explanations).

So what are you suggesting? It's due to the Covid jab?
