Yeah, what I'm getting from these Trump threads is that anyone can spin things any way they like.

There's no rhyme or reason.

Debating about Trump is a fool's game man.

I'll just keep my thoughts to myself from now on.

Please do so. Your cutesie ingenue comments get tedious.

yes, that's accurate.

trump's tariffs are not exactly "reciprocal".

they're exaggerated.

but it could be a "negotiation tactic" on his part.

Frogs whilst I admire your blind devotion to Trump - it IS blind !

When you write, "trump's tariffs are not exactly "reciprocal" the truth is they ARE NOT RECIPROCAL AT ALL. As for 'exaggeration' that's an irrelevant and incorrect word in this context.

As for "negotiation tactic" - that reminds me of the Goon Show years ago - "it's all part of a masterly plan".

Now we have a 'Goon Show' in the USA !!!

Look like Trump should be prosecuted for rigging the market, and offering insider information.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trumps-buy-tip-social-media-230226399.html

NEW YORK (AP) — When Donald Trump offered some financial advice Wednesday morning, stocks were wavering between gains and losses.

But that was about to change.

“THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!! DJT,” he wrote on his social media platform Truth Social at 9:37 a.m.

Less than four hours later, Trump announced a 90-day pause on nearly all his tariffs. Stocks soared on the news, closing up 9.5% by the end of trading. The market, measured by the S&P 500, gained back about $4 trillion, or 70%, of the value it had lost over the previous four trading days.

But that's the kind of thing Trump would always say, right?  That's his mindset.  A new beginning for America.  "Liberation day" when the tariffs were announced.  Everything is great or will  be soon.

Nice try Ivor 🫢 However, Trump is the living proof that your assertion, is NOT true.

How is Trump folding on tariffs before there is even one "deal" going to:

Reshore jobs (imagine you started the process to build a factory in the US on Trump's tariff promises a month ago and now you get this), because this fold up will mainly shift jobs to places such as Southeast Asia and Mexico.

Make tariffs equal out (the tariffs he imposed, he said, only equalized things, unless . . . he was lying)

Stop Chinese transshipments in places like Southeast Asia, where the tariffs promised to make sure that didn't happen, unless . . . he was lying.

Strengthen the dollar, as he promised to tariff any country like BRICS that threatened to undermine the dollar as a reserve currency, unless . . . he was lying.

Very droll Frogs ! Yet another brainless Trump speech, (observed not by a 'hater' but judged on merit).

Ready - yes the mess Trump created will take a lot of clearing up - there will be many discussions before matters are repaired. Meantime, many will have suffered losses, some relationships will take years to repair and some may be irreparable. The unfortunate fact for Trump is that the US deficit is caused by citizens wanting to buy goods made abroad - that problem is still there!

Most would have agreed with measured and specific actions to address the deficit, with targeted tariffs for a few, interest rates and taxation - because, in the end, as USA manufacturing will take aeons to regenerate, citizens still want to buy and the USA still has a deficit.

Yes a lot of US citizens want to lower the deficit! A very good idea ,also for the rest of the world.

Also a lot of US citizens are up to their neck in debt.

Paying off one credit card using another one.

That is not so bright.

When ever i see what my relatives own in the US i am always surprised at how much stuff they have!

A big house,a house at the lake,a boat, two motorbikes,a snow  scooter ,two cars and a 4x4 ,a whole load of other stuff.

In all honesty living in "riches" like that how can you complain the world is not treating you fairly?

Looks like the rumour about the 90 day pause in tariffs, was leaked a little bit too early on Monday. Still, all his cronies will have made big profits on their insider dealing now.

What's the betting this 90 day pause will be permanent?

Doubt it. Trump pushed tariffs in the election. People voted him in. Tariffs are happening. They haven't been stopped just set at 10% for the next 90 days except China whose getting 125%. This is the only example so far of a tit for tat tariff war. Every other country will negotiate for a better deal in the next 90 days.

Let me fix that just a little bit,

You can get elected twice if your voters are stupid.!

What is the old saying?"you can fool some of the people,

For the person who posted a confused emoji.

You can fool some of the people sometimes but you can not fool all of the people all the time!

I understand you are confused but just feel free to ask for an explanation next time.

His whole rationale for the Tariffs is flawed. No time to go into it but Tariffs based on trade deficits is just .. dumb. It makes no sense. I saw my retirement portfolio jump wildly about this last week. Insanity by a sophomore elected by a bunch of people who were wholly bamboozled.

Let's assume you're correct, for the purpose of discussion.  So what?

At this point, the election is over, Trump is the President of the USA, and the people on the left, the media propaganda machine, and many people on this board seem to think that arguing that tariffs are stupid will "fix" the  world's problems.  These same people offer no solutions. Unless "Trump is an idiot" is some sort of solution.  I think not.  But it does serve the purpose of those whose only agenda is to "get Trump." If that's not sophomoric, I'm not sure what is.

My guess is that he got so much pressure from Wall Street, billionaires and other people who are losing a fortune that he was forced to put a pause on all this. The upside is that hopefully it will give the lowly US a chance to negotiate deals with many nations and avoid this extreme level of economic sabotage that Trump's been engaged in.

(Sophomoric - 'intellectually pretentious, overconfident, conceited, etc.')

JAS I commented before : "the mess Trump created will take a lot of clearing up - there will be many discussions before matters are repaired. JAS - I reject that accusation. ATB
