The USA has a positive trade balance with Australia. Pure greed is Big Pharma in America lobbying Trump to sell medications in Australia at inflated US prices.

Example: A year's supply of an inhibitor medication cost me AUD 100. In America, it would have cost me USD 70,000. Tough luck if I could not afford it.

My comment about Trump and his supporters obviously applies to you as well.

Does anymore really give a fig on about  your comments are I don't

as stated In Australia its pure greed by Australia that prevents them from stopping trade completely with USA since their Exports to the United States are less than 5% of Australia's total goods exports.

When I shop there are numerous businesses that I don't like the way they do business so I don't  use them its that simple

One of the main reason Trump was voted in was his promise to "Make America great again", and a big part of that was returning production work to the US.

You have no idea what you are talking about and your hatred for Trump has clouded your judgement and disabled your critical thinking ability.

You assume the above. There is no hatred for Trump. There is disdain for his character, disgust for hs crudeness and lack of class, and bewilderment at many of his  policies. He is not worth the energy expended for  the emotion of hatred. He too shall pass.

Yes, it is a good idea to increase productivity in the USA, but the limiting factor is the  culture of the USA and the inflated sense of self importance that a nation populated by morbidly obese, poorly educated and lazy people now has.

The sad reality is that much of the burden for  innovation and actual production is carried by a small number of residents of the USA. This cannot be changed overnight. It must start with the reintroduction of mandatory physical education and and instruction in the fundamentals of mathematics, general science and communication skills in the the nation's youth. The people will neither accept nor consider this. They want a quick fix, and alas there is none. The USA culture is reflected by its school lunch program of tater tots, questionable  fried meat patties and boiled root vegetables, with a sugar based beverage. Quite a contrast to the schools of  North Asia.

You seem to be laboring under the delusion America is disadvantaged by Australia in trade.

Are you so economically illiterate you don't understand what the US positive trade balance with Australia means?

I don't knowingly buy American goods and services. Not that they are superior anyway, that ship sailed 40 years ago.

Silly comment. The US is the second largest exporter of goods in the world. US manufacturers aren't forcing people to buy their stuff. Well, at least not yet. Give Trump some more time and who knows...

Clearly you don't understand why is Australia bothering to trade with the USA since Australia  Exports to the United States are less than 5% of Australia's total goods exports unless your exports are so crappy that  Australia is unable to find another mug to take those products

There is, of course, also always the option to distract the masses with an external threat, and the US is giving Xi a big target.

Taking one or two shoals in the South China Sea? Attacking Taiwan or entering Siberia? Maybe even an attack on Diego Garcia, just to send a signal (even though that would smell a little bit too much like Pearl harbor, and I doubt that the Chinese are yet up for a total war)?

The options seem endless for the Chinese, and indeed, they only need to span the time until the next election cycle, which is not long.

I would give the Chinese an 80% chance to come out on top in a trade war, not just because they can deflect their internal public opinion easily, but also because the whole world is (trade-)fighting the Americans, while Trump is attacking China all on his own (keeping even 10% of tariffs is enough to rile up even the staunchest ally).

Your thinking is COMPLETE Garbage:

a. For one thing, please do tell... How many years have you lived in China?

b. You seem to know very little about living under an authoritarian state.

c. Go to China, and live there....and......

PLEASE....do NOT come back.

CommieChina is probably the very best place for you to get the education of which you seem to be in dire need.

I just love to hear know-nothings spout off about things that show their true ignorance.

If you were a TRUE China Ham, which you are not, obviously, then you would not be singing such a very illogical tune.

We have already heard too much of your thinking, since the early 1980s...and.....most of us knew back then what was what.

How truly ignorant your arguments seem to me.

PATHETIC is the word for these....

And, I very rarely use this word, pathetic, but, in this case, pathetic is finally warranted.

Enjoy your ignorance, my friend, until the day you finally wise up, and by which time....

It will be far too late for the world.

Such ignorance is only seen by those who have not lived in China for many, many years.

Become an Old China Ham, if you wish, just in case you are willing to spend the time.

But, DO YOU have the PERSPICACITY to EVEN qualify????

I KNOW that you do NOT....

very sorry for being so blunt, but....

Call a spade a spade, is what my mother always taught me....

Trump lost the last tariff war with China in his first presidency.

The Smoot-Hawley tariffs of 1930 were a prime cause of the Great Depression.

Why anyone thinks he can get a different result this time is beyond my comprehension.

The Great Depression started before Smoot-Hawley.

But yeah, run with it.

It's going to be fun to watch POTUS gag when China and Gov Gavin Newsom announce their own separate trade deal.

39 million California consumers are an attractive market.

That's more consumers than ND, SD, WY, AK, AR, MS, WV, TN, KY, IA, NE, NV, UT, ID, KS, MT and AL combined.

It passed in the House in May, 1929 BEFORE the October crash. It passed the Senate in early 1930, and was signed into law by Hoover in June 1930.

This is similar to how POTUS enacted his tariffs, albeit Smoot Hawley did flip flop.

The US market began to fall once POTUS started barking incessantly about his tariff plan, even though the tariffs did not take effect until this week. The market was already down a lot in anticipation.

POTUS caved yesterday, as he got too much pressure from financial markets and certain market players, such as Bill Ackman and Jamie Dimon.

Smoot-Hawley took a Recession and turned it into a Depression. POTUS will be instrumental in history repeating, unless he caves again.

No, it was FDR that turned a recession into the depression.

The question says it all.

Reportedly China if it chooses has the power to destroy the USA with this trade war.

Yes it would be a big sacrifice, but China is run by a total dictator so the people will comply regardless.

Who is stronger?

Both sides have strengths and weaknesses.

AI answer:

The United States is generally considered to have the upper hand in a trade war with China due to its larger economy and significant trade deficit with China, which gives it more leverage. However, China is betting on its ability to endure longer-term economic pain, as it has a more centralized economic system that can withstand pressure for extended periods.

Amer4ica also has a much nicer land mass than China. Google the most polluted hell holes and thats China along with India. China has been built an a terrible lie as it's foundation.

The US, of course. Xi outclasses Trump by 60 IQ points. And he knows how to negotiate, something Trump is terrible at. China is in a far stronger position. The US has tens of thousands of companies that have spent trillions of dollars on infrastructure to manufacture in China. They simply cannot afford to levy these tariffs long term, it would cripple the US economy.

Trump is a dunce.

Yeah Chinese infrastructure. lol Trump may be a dunce but you are venerating Xi unneccassrily.

Most Americans can barely afford to live at the current wage levels.

The entire premise of this trade war is moronic.

Americans don't want to do manual labor.

Any new factories are going to be totally automated providing jobs mostly for advanced engineers.

Globalization is good.

Sure some strategic industries may need limited protection.

Those are the RATIONAL uses of tariffs.

Compete and invest for a decent future based on higher value labor.

Those that will never be able to catch up can be put on guaranteed minimum income, VR consoles, and mood altering drugs.

I realize that sounds harsh, but I'm serious. For those that can't catch up, there aren't going to jobs for them anyway. Better to have a realistic humane approach.

Why would the USA want to be the grunt "worker bee" nation again? Is that great?!?

You assume a lot about most Americans for a guy that sits on his fat ass in Thailand doing next to nothing, except collecting his SS. Never pretend you speak for most Americans. When was the last time you were here to qualify that statement?

Another one insisting on being simple minded or more like faking being dumb.

There are levels of being a dictator.

Trump is obviously working rapidly on taking all power in the U.S. but he's not there yet (and hopefully never will be).

Xi has been there yet for a very long time.
