Two women posing as customers duped an 84-year-old man in Phetchabun province, managing to steal 12,000 baht. The theft occurred on April 8, when the duo distracted the homeowner, Lop Sonkaew, under the guise of buying sticky rice containers.

The incident unfolded around midnight while Lop was helping relatives and had locked his front door, entrusting his neighbour, 78-year-old Kun Raksasi, to watch his house. When Lop returned after cutting a customer’s hair, he discovered that his money—earned through haircuts, selling woven goods, and gathering leaves—was missing from his waist pouch, and the back door, which had been secured with rope, was ajar.

Kun recounted that the women, aged between 40 and 50, arrived on a motorcycle and feigned interest in purchasing sticky rice containers. Despite Kun's insistence that there were none for sale, one woman insisted on using the bathroom. Once allowed, she went to the back of the property while her accomplice engaged Kun in conversation.

After briefly disappearing, the woman returned, and the pair left without explanation. The ruse's success was revealed when Lop returned home for a haircut appointment and realized the theft.

Lop lamented losing his savings, which left him with only 140 baht. The distress has affected his sleep. In response, police are reviewing surveillance footage that captured the women, cloaked and helmeted, arriving at the time of the incident. The investigation is ongoing as police work to identify and bring the suspects to justice, reported The Thaiger.
