Seem a little boring but whatever floats your boat.  The festival is a minor inconvenience and it is nice to see people having fun.  Dripping wet women or men if that is how you roll isn't all bad.  Got bigger things not to worry about 🙂

Nowhere in the Quran is alcohol banned!

It suggests strongly that you do not drink but it is NOT stated that you must NOT drink!

The nearest it gets is to say;

  "O you who have believed, do not approach prayer while you are intoxicated until you know what you are saying"

                                       and

"Satan only wants to cause between you animosity and hatred through intoxicants and gambling and to avert you from the remembrance of Allah and from prayer. So will you not desist?"

I was a restauran towner and bartender in Sweden, at the time the muslims started to invade the country. At that time, I had very many contacts in that community, and they all party like hell after dark.

Back to the subject (ignoring the Muslim digs than that have taken over the thread)).

Non drinkers have a choice.

No one forces them to drink or not to drink.

So mind your own business and do not tell other what they can or cannot do.

Same with vegans - do not tell others what they can or cannot eat.

Same with religion - you choose your religion, but do not tell others who or what they can believe in.

It is supposed to be a free society, or did that die out when the woke brigade tried to take over.

Yeah I recall many decades ago when I would go out on SongKran day, except for very little ones, the teenagers and adults would just put a bit of talcum poweder wetted down so it would stick.  None of this splashing like recent years has seen but I see too, that the government is trying to get as many tourists in as possible do they can make a few bucks.

Muslims are not supposed to drink alcohol as its 'Harim', now having worked in a few 'Muslim' countries, I am in Indonesia now in fact. Many Muslims do imbibe as you say, but they do it usually out of their country or in private!

A very different thing for someone who is there on holiday for a few weeks compared to a long term expat.

Ive been to Lebanon (beautiful country) a few times... the leg over from Dubai, always filled with  hairy men wearing white bed linen.

Bahrain is a similar kinda place, many Saudis wipe themselves out in car accidents on the way to/from Bahrain.

well the tourists came which was the intention of the government just to get them to come for several days or a week to spend money.  I know that and avoided the crowds for sure.  I don't drink nor smoke drugs nor participate in those activities' locations.  Used to be that Bangkok during SongKran was deserted and one could drive around the city with no traffic.

I remember that during my first visit to BKK in 85/86 traffic wasn't really an issue there, 24/7/365 (and you haggled before getting into a taxi, no meters).
