U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders' Fighting Oligarchy Tour continues to draw massive crowds, even in states where people overwhelmingly voted for Republican President Donald Trump.

For instance, more than 20,000 people attended his rally in deep red Utah where Trump won the 2024 election by over 20 points, whilst over 12,000 attended his rally in Nampa, Idaho where Trump thrashed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris by 36%.

Last Saturday's rally in Los Angeles drew approximately 36,000 people.

Sanders said: "I invite the president to come to LA. Tell the people here why you think it's a great idea to cut Medicaid and nutrition and healthcare, so you can give tax breaks to billionaires."

"Musk and his friends see you as nothing more than workers to be disposed of," the senator continued. "They got rid of tens of thousands of federal workers. They don't give a damn about you. And what we have got to do is say, 'Sorry, We are human beings.'"

"Because they know what you know and what I know, is that they are the 1%, we are the the 99%''  Sanders said, echoing one of his slogans from his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. "They own Congress, they own the White House, but they don't own us.''

Continuing his theme, Sanders added,'' I don't care whether you're Republican, Democrat, or Independent—the people of this country do not want oligarchy, they do not want authoritarianism, and they want a government that works for all of us, not just the 1%."

You are out of your depth, Susan. You should stick to dingy bar hunting in Bangkok. More in line with your pay grade. Pathetic, loser, troll, stalker, weirdo.

And those are Susan's GOOD points!

Yet Sanders himself is a millionaire. According to online sources, his 2025 net worth is estimated to be around $3 million.

I thought Bernie was in Congress.

Bernie is an idiot.  He has zero concept of the scope and sheer size of the federal government.   His stupid rhetoric is not productive when dealing with federal budget issues.

He would have made a lot more if he hadn't been a public servant for over 50 years. He invested wisely in a couple of houses and they went up in value. What he has now is fairly average.

Even a public school teacher would have $1 million after working that many years and without ever investing in anything. Just by putting the money in the bank.

Bernie could never make it in the private sector.

Serve 10 years as a senator, then you could get paid three times as much in the private sector being a consultant or a lobbyist.

Anyway, you ignored my point. $3 million isn't much to have earned and saved over that amount of time.

The median net worth worth at 65  is $409,000.   Bernie would have never made it in the private sector.  He has also been a useless senator.

He also wrote a best-selling book. No matter what you think of Bernie's policies, he is just about the ONLY politician who has remained faithful to his message and constituents.

That’s a good point. He did write a book, which probably earned him a bit of money. But even so, he’s not a capitalist. He’s just an average guy doing a job and making a living. As you said, he’s been a faithful politician with a track record of honesty, integrity, and selflessness. He genuinely cares about working-class people and the quality of life for the average American. He respects democracy and the rule of law, things that are increasingly rare in American government. People like him usually don’t go into politics.

I do wonder, though, if what he’s doing now will actually lead to any real change. It’s almost impossible to move the needle over the next four years unless something changes on its own. So in some ways, it feels like what he’s doing might be in vain. But maybe that doesn’t matter to him. What matters is getting the message out, as strongly and clearly as possible. That’s all he can control. The rest is out of his hands, he’s just doing his part, and the chips will fall where they may. Either way, he's a good man and I have respect for what he's trying to do. Most people his age would just be sitting on a beach somewhere right now sipping a cool drink and letting somebody else worry about the problems.

After depositing $10,000 annually for 50 years at a 5% annual interest rate compounded annually, you would have over $2 million.

How many schoolteachers could to deposit $10,000 a year in 1975? Equivalent of about $80k now. Discussing economics with socialists is an unwise use of time & energy.
