Aspiring Thai flight attendants, too old, short, brown or fat? Come to America instead!

Yeah it's so much better to keep a fake picture of 'beauty is all that matters' alive with half competent staff that can't even speak clear announcements. Nice eye candy for a unsustainable future. The irony is that they are booted out themselves by the time they hit 33 except very few becoming managers.

But nobody ever wonders or mentions that part right, where do all those girls end up working at.

I'm not against Christians in general but those people who come to Thailand and prey on the hill tribes really bother me.

Right so you rather would see nobody caring at all about them, as is the case without those christians doing at least something?

Those people don't have a written language or formalized religion so they're easy targets. I am however surprised they were receptive to foreigners telling them anything because they're incredibly inward looking and standoffish people.

Sure but it's not that simple. The American I mentioned was employed by one of the world's biggest / very high profile children's charities, formed / financed controlled by a Mainstream big name Christian church based in California.

Seems that the have very successful methods to gain the attention / confidence of Children, and an early item is learning  (with a lot of fun) to read English, then comprehend then speak read and write English and learn to read and comprehend the bible.

At the same time families have their accommodation, food, clothing, transport upgraded, so they get to respect and follow the missionaries, and work together with the missionaries.

indeed it sounds very predatory. I would entirely ban these people from operating within Thailand. I have no idea why it's permitted in a country which is so strict with foreigners.

It's a phase of life. They do the work and they move on. A good friend of my wife was a flight attendant. She did the time and then moved on like the rest of them. Many jobs are like this.

Same thing with Americans demanding minimal wage jobs like McDonalds pay a "living wage" when these were always intended to be temporary jobs for students and teenagers.

I know these people very well actually and pass through their villages often. Nothing has changed in the 20 years I've been observing them.

They're in another world from the rest of us. Nothing any of us can do can change these people and I don't think we should be interfering with them. They're slowly going to fade out as their women marry out of the culture and their kids move to the cities. Just how it is.

I didn't say that or suggest that in any way. Just your unsuccessful attempt to deflect and to, perhaps, suggest they are all good guys, which they aren't. I mentioned 'high profile global charity'.

I've had a different experience with this group, their Thailand / S.E.Asia leader (Filipino lady) called my office in Bkk about 1:00 pm and proceeded to abuse a new junior staff member because she couldn't instantly transfer her to a highly experienced expert about the structure of non-profit organizations.

She left a number, I called back and also got abused. She finished the call by saying 'I expect you to be in my office in Manila tomorrow morning at 09:00 with a contract to be signed'. and she hung up. That didn't happen.

After some further discussions my company did provide some expert advice but only after I added some clauses to the contract refusing to work with Ms. xxxxx, which was endorsed by the client. But she ignored that, the morning the project was to start I, and my 2 staff members, were invited to join their regional team for breakfast at the 5 star hotel they were staying at. The Filipino lady mentioned was continuously abusing the young hotel staff.  After breakfast I confronted her say 'the signed contract states that you will not participate in the work, are you going to honor that clause.?' She responded 'maybe', I responded 'the only answer is yes I will honor that clause in the contract or we will not  start the work'. She then withdrew.  )

Another factor, another senior person from this organization called me to insist that I be available at a date / time to be advised by this organization for a photo-op at a Bkk 6  star hotel with their most senior person, from their California HO when she was signing the contract.

The lady from California did come with a 2 person entourage, and in a discussion with one of the entourage we discovered all three had flown business class (proven with documentation) from the US to Bangkok. Great way to spend donations given by donors who believe their blurb that every cent is spent on a needy child.

Life's a puzzle, some folks achieve big, become rich and live a very comfortable life. Others don't which is sad and unfortunately there's no special formula to make all people rich or well off.  That's capitalism at work.

There is, I believe, a case to say the elected government of any / all countries should have polices / be active to provide better education for all, equal opportunities for all, better quality of life etc., for all.

In the case of the hill tribe peoples there is no elected government and alternative organizations such as the united nations, the world bank, ASEAN etc., have achieved nothing for these people, worst of all being that they have no actual status as people, they cannot (even in 2025) get a passport etc.

But there is a case to say that developing the basic skills of reading and writing is a step forward.
