Dear Folks,

 

Having just watched someone put up a new roof, somewhere in Thailand:

 

a. The homeowner chose BLACK…JET BLACK for the exterior covering of a corrugated roof for a very large sun awning.  I mean…a HUGE awning connected to his house.

b. Why choose BLACK, JET BLACK?

c. Does he think this color might be “COOL”?

d. I do agree that the STONES are COOL, and the Tune is VERY COOL.

e. But, to paint a roof black in Thailand…Is this cool? Or, is this idiocy?

 

What are the construction workers thinking, too?

Are they not aware of the radiation absorption PROPERTIES of a…

 

BLACK BODY IN SPACE, for example?

 

When we talk about BLACK BODIES, and BLACK BODY RADIATION, I guess you all know what I am talking about.  But, do the workers here, who are working on this big project, understand?  Have they not even studied Year One Astronomy at MIT, for example?

 

All MIT courses are available on the net, and for free.

Any excuses for not having watched the Physics courses on MIT's great website, before putting up a black roof?

 

This just boggles my mind.

 

 

 

AND...What about the HEAT-ISLAND Effect, around the black roof?

What about THAT????

It's too hot for me. All my buildings have black roofs, which leak and make the top floor very hot.

They painted it black because they want to conserve the heat already inside the house (TIC).

Mine was because the "builders" needed to use up the extra wall tiles.

I does not matter , our roofs are red ,but over the years they go black

due to algae ,black algae , I know because I have just been spraying

the roofs with bleach ,mixed with dish soap and water , just leave it on

and the rain washes it all off ,no more black algae .

A BLACK BODY will radiate heat much faster than a WHITE BODY...

 

So, even your hypothesis is a bit confusing to me.

 

If they wanted to conserve heat inside their house, one would have thought they might have chosen WHITE as a better color than JET BLACK....

 

Makes no sense to me....actually....

I mean it does not matter ,if you have a white ,red ,blue roof , in time they will turn black with

the algae , I wash it off because I don't like it

Here we go, another load of verbal crap 

I never understood why black tile roofs. Why not white tile roofs. I painted my horse peddock cement fence black so you can't see the dirt. Much nicer then white.  But you can't touch it in the day.

Perhaps the person does not know about such things. Many Thais, especially the older ones were likely never taught physics in school.

Why do some people care what color someone else paints their roof?
