After Columbia student Mohsen Mahdawi was arrested at his U.S. citizenship test in Vermont, a group of his Israeli classmates penned a letter against his detainment, which they called immoral. A day later, a wide-ranging coalition of Jewish organizations issued a statement rejecting what they call a “false choice” between Jewish safety and protecting democratic principles.

This isn't about support or opposition to Israel.

It's about a domestic issue of civil rights for dissenters with any view, popular or not.

A core American value in a time when the fascist Trump regime is attacking all core American values.

I agree that the fascist Trump regime is cynically using Jews (without their consent) to further his xenophobic immigration agenda.

The same Trump that dines with Nazis. American Jews are not that stupid.
