Yeah, and when it was over 34, the toursists were pouring in until the earthquake.  Now no one would want to stay in any high-rise hotel when as of yet, very few have had inspections from qualitifed experts.  Many currencies are suffering right now too due to the tariff fiasco..once that settles down and  stabilizes folks might consider vacations again  I saw a news clip from the US that said snack foods were the only thing on the shelves as whenever there is a downturn in the economy people only buy meals not snacks.

sounds great to me....I remember 57 to one in '97...ended up spedning a lot of baht during those days.  great golf clubs from the factory in China.  Now I don't expect much of a drop as many currencies are fluctuating due to the tariff parties.

What on earth are they talking about?

 

They highlight a very small intra day movement of the baht that in and of itself is totally meaningless. Meanwhile, a chart of anything from one month to 1 year shows an overall strengthening of the baht against USD, or, to be more accurate, a weakening of the USD.

 

When the baht is above 35 to USD, or even 37 like it was a year or so ago, THEN talk about a weakening.

 

This story is pure fiction and the writer should be sacked

Escaped Thailand, Jomtien to Vietnam for Songkran 

Still here,

Beer cheaper

Food cheaper including Pork

Hotels cheaper

Beaches cheaper and cleaner 

No weed shops everywhere 

Feels safer

Thailand needs to look at itself, not just thinking a baht more for your dollar will attract tourists

on March 1st,  I converted euros at the rate 1 EUR = 35,54 bahts with Wise
Today 1 EUR = 38,09

Baht is clearly weaker

I recall reading about a meeting with Thai industrial leaders and the government not too long ago.  They said industry needed a Baht at 34 to the USD to survive.  So no, I don’t feel the Baht is weak today.

Trump bringing higher tariffs to America is a bit like the British bringing tea to Boston, it's destined to fail and the ship is destined to sink.

 

Just think, we were fortunate enough to have seen the UK and the US in far better days, those former empires are only going to continue to decline in our lifetimes, while Asia continues to ascend.

Never say never.  I bought my 1st car when the UKP was at 73 (20 years ago.)  My 1st house & furnishings quickly followed; then designer clothes (not copies).  Now I rent; my car is 8 years old and I only dine out on special occasions.  I still think coming here was the best decision I have ever made.

I doubt that European families will be traveling far these days. More like staying near home. There’s trouble everywhere thanks to Covid, Trump, the war against Ukraine, emptying the pockets of all governments. Where I live France the hotels are already booked full for the season.  Same with Greece, Turkey, Italy , Portugal and Spain. Cheap flights get you everywhere for cheap these days. Or you can drive / train.
