A daring armed robbery unfolded on the evening of 26 April, when a lone assailant, brandishing a firearm, stormed a gold shop inside a major shopping mall on the Udon Thani–Sakon Nakhon ring road, escaping with 30 gold necklaces valued at approximately 1.6 million baht.

At around 19.30, Udon Thani’s 191 emergency centre received reports of an armed robbery at the Yaowarat Bangkok Gold Shop, located on the second floor of the shopping centre.

According to police, the suspect, described as a man wearing a green shirt, black full-face helmet, black tracksuit trousers with white stripes, and black trainers, entered the store wielding a gun, though it remains unclear whether the weapon was real or a replica.

After seizing the gold, the robber fled the scene, leaving behind the firearm and a hammer used to smash the display cases.

Police, led by Pol Col Phattanawong Janphon, Superintendent of Mueang Udon Thani Police Station, along with investigative and patrol units, rushed to the scene. Officers quickly launched a citywide manhunt, setting up checkpoints and coordinating a search effort across Udon Thani. However, as of the time of reporting, the suspect remains at large.

The investigation continues, with police reviewing CCTV footage and appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.
