No its not a strange view. Tattoos are a redflag of the person mental state and trust. It doesnt appeal to trust

That's just won the award of funniest post of the day. Well done.

Totally mate. They are so opposite its a huge paradox…. I cant find an answer why specifically. Almost 98% of farangs in bkk have tatts.

This one a close second.

Likes of Tinder UK is saturated with tattood females under 40.

I personally don't like the look - but each to their own.

It's the tats on social media exposure putting it in viewers faces..it kind of feeds on itself, then so many get them these days...vs 'baddies' as the oldsters on here were brought up to think.

When I ever I see tattoos on Thai people it's also a person from the nightlife scene or lower-class "thug" looking youths. Never do see a normal or middle class Thai person with them.

Lots of pretty Thai women now have "cute" tattoos

Honestly, I probably wouldn't think so negatively of them if they were done well, had some meaning, placed properly on the body and cared for (stay out of the sun).

I would be so obsessed with any tattoo on my body that looks like she it. It would haunt me

I find it hard to believe anyone would chose their accountant, lawyer or doctor based on tattoos. I would think basing them on competence, experience and knowledge would be the norm.

You wouldn't choose them on the basis of tattoos obviously or even exclude them if one surprisingly turned up.But the vast majority of doctors, lawyers don't have them.

And also, maybe we need to stop judging people based on their "class in society".

Why? I wouldn't use the word 'judge' but class is a key identifier.

Adults under 50 are especially likely to have a tattoo. Some 41% of those under 30 have at least one, as do 46% of those ages 30 to 49. This compares with a quarter of adults ages 50 to 64 and 13% of those 65 and older.

(apologies to KhaoHom, I believe he was quoting someone else, this was not his info)

So those numbers would fit well with those below the mean on a normal distribution of intelligence getting tattooed while those of average intelligence or above declining to get tattoos.

you may find it amusing, but if he's an employer and you walk in to an interview with a tattoo, you ain't getting hired.

it's a kind of 'racism' that a lot of people have towards people with tattoos.

Why is that that most tourists and expats, men and women. Farangs, asians or else do have tattoos?

And not a small one but clearly visible and obnoxious ones.

In the West for instance, you almost never see those. But here young and old people are full of it.

I would say it’s almost 1 on 2 who are covered with tatts.

Why does Thailand attracts primarly those people? Knowing that in their culture is not perceived as good. Huge paradox…

Also tattoos people have a high tendency to be degenerate. And most are sadly. Not the cream of the crop…

So why is like this? Any theory or explanation? On why they’re attracts here.

Consider who comes here to Thailand? Young drop outs and other riffraff feeling quite well in their low class community.

What did they "drop out" of ??

Unsatisfying jobs, which represent 80% of jobs out there.

And one could also say they are adventurous and risk-takers for uprooting and leaving rather than labeling them low class riff raff.

I didn't have any tattoos until I came to Thailand and my Thai friends asked me if I didn't want to go together with them and get sak yants.

But on the other hand, back home all of my family have tattoos, and all are honest working people, and not degenerates like those working in finance, lawyers or a plushy offices, just stealing hard working people's money.

Because frankly, who is worst for the world?! A person who is working hard for their living and doing some drinking, gambling or whatever, or someone like the CEO of Blackrock with billions to his name, closing down companies and factories, not because they are making a loss, but because they aren't making ENOUGH profit... I worked for one company that was closed down by the owners because we "only" made a yearly 15% ROI.

"Could', yes, but take a closer look at them or follow AN stories: some are naked losers, some mental disorientated, some stealing, many drunk, most bad behaving. But all with ugly tattoos.

got to disagree with you there’s as many or more tattoos worldwide in other countries as there are in Thailand. I think what is occurring with your observation is that simply it’s more visible here. They are just as many tattoo shops in Los Angeles as there are here in Thailand. I have many other people I know that don’t live in Thailand have what you would consider large and obnoxious tattoos.

After certain events in the Middle East the more profitable clinic will be "foreskin restoration" but nothing bits "restoration of virginity". Seriously, I met one Israeli "doctor" who runs that one.

Got it, you hate Israel, but why put doctor in scare quotes?  He wasn't actually a doctor?  Because women having their junk "rejuvenated" as the saying goes is popular worldwide.  Bumrungrad does it Jew free, which I'm sure you'll approve of!

Yes stupidity is wide spread. People should consider how tattoos are looking when you're over 60 or 70. Then the anchor (popular) hit the ground. Or the butterfly looks like a vulture?

A blight on the landscape, for sure.

When one monkey sees another monkey do something stupid,

Then the stupid monkeys must always copy the first few stupid monkeys.

It has always been this way with human primates.

Do you have a stat or article on it?

As usual certain old people like to stick their head in the mud. You can read it in most of all prior comments. Just to pull out some random US stat alone:

  • Ages 18–34: An Ipsos poll from 2019 found that 40% of Americans in this age group have at least one tattoo. (ipsos)

  • Under 30: A 2023 Pew Research Center survey reported that 41% of adults under 30 have at least one tattoo. (pew research center)

  • Ages 30–49: The same Pew study indicated that 46% of adults in this age range have at least one tattoo.

  • Gender: Women are more likely than men to have tattoos. For instance, 56% of women aged 18–29 and 53% of women aged 30–49 reported having at least one tattoo.

It would be more in Thailand itself, similar at least for Europe too.
