Has there ever been so much attention to a foreigner keeping their shoes on when going into a restaurant  in Thailand ?

In forty years here, I've never been asked to take my shoes off before entering a restaurant. The barbers and some shops, yes. But a simple request to do so would not give me cause to get out of my cot. Go with the flow. But wear a shirt! Who wants to sit near a sweaty body when eating? Even 'wife beaters.' On the beach, OK. In an eating place, no.

An Israeli tourist's refusal to adhere to a "shoes off" rule in a Koh Pha Ngan café

Her problem could have easily been resolved by just getting up and finding another cafe that did allow the wearing of shoes!

Dentist office: please take your shoes off.
Veterinarian: please take your shoes off.
Doctor's office: please take your shoes off.
Some cafes and restaurants: please take your shoes off.

TIT.  This is NOT a uncommon request by proprietors of businesses in Thailand. Your business, your rules. If you don't like the rules, don't patronize the business.

This is NOT a uncommon request by proprietors of businesses in Thailand.

This stupid requirement is the exception rather than the rule for the vast majority of Thai businesses, so yes it is uncommon.

I have seen this rule in Temples and dentists but very few Thai businesses follow this nonsense.

Lived here for nearly 30 years and I have never been asked to remove my shoes in a restaurant or cafe, in fact, I have never even heard of a restaurant or cafe with this rule.

Now doing it to others ?

That's a common narrative which you're free to believe in but in my view it's overly simplistic.

How Arrogant ,

it’s very simple , take her visa and deport her straight away.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction.

If they did that to every tourist who behaved like an A-hole in Thailand, there would be a heck of a lot more vacancies at hotels.

Being an A-hole is not a crime.

Don’t blame her. Kids in Israel are brought up thinking like this. It’s only when they face the outside world they realise (some don’t of course) that majority of people don’t share their ethnosupremacy culture.

You could be talking about Thais with the exact same argument.

Targeted for being Jewish/Israeli .

Most probably instigated and filmed by an enemy .

Thais are usually non plussed about shoes being worn or removed

She also states that the restaurant owner was OK with shoes being worn .

Its quite likely that she was responding to some unsavory abuse unrelated to the shoe issue .

An example of what Israelis have to deal with and  a reason why they aren't always friendly to non Israelis

Oh dear how sad never mind.

There are a couple of pharmacies near me that have a sign in Thai to remove shoes but as a dirty foreigner I can't read Thai so don't remove my shoes 😝...a silly request in the first place  no one removes their shoes to go into Lotus or Big C  they don't even require it at a hospital.

Having an unpopular opinion does not necessarily mean you are wrong.

Not only tourists...

Many posters have posted things in the line of "my money builds your country".

And most posters here seem to think that a person who doesn't speak English is something subhuman

Name them then. You are very wrong.Smug and wrong.

I have never even heard of a restaurant or cafe with this rule.

I've got two small coffee shops near my place in Bangkok suburbia that ask customers to remove their shoes on entering.

It's why I rarely visit them, despite one being quite nice.

There are also a few office-like places and a barber shop near me that request the same, so it does still happen.

It's annoying if you're wearing shoes with long laces.

it's very simple: "when in Rome, do as the Romans"

that counts also for Thailand!

NO ONE is excluded for such easy understandable shoerules, no farangs, no Thais, nobody, even not Israeli's...

Stated by the rude entitled Israeli who I'm going to doubt here. Her behavior fits a pattern and she is just making excuses after she got caught.

The key point here is that she told a Thai that "my monee built your country" <mic drop> <wink> in 4K. Great viral moment.

Re the last paragraph, the tot money spent in Thailand by Israels (and many other nationalities) is very very tiny compared to the Thai economy.

if a restaurant require toput shoes off, i would even leave...point

in thai many shop require put shoes off, ok culture, but when i see all the dirt in the shops,  than this is crazy put the shoes off , it will not help make it cleaner.

but up to thais, the stuppid " my money makes your..." , is real stupid , but can happen in heated argruments.

i dont like , i leave --my money--and their houserules  thats it

thats same like in  a restaurnat before asking when enter " can i smoking "  answer   au kap --and after telling cant smoke when orderd--i leave immediate, thats it eat by your self

Most people do not act like that, or say things like that.

Only because you bring money to a country this doesn't mean you can be disrespectful of local value and traditions.

Remind yourself you are a guest here!

Tourists money has indeed helped Thailand to develop .

Many felang retirees also claim that their pension money keeps Thailand afloat and without their input of 30 000 Baht a month , the Thai economy would collapse

True that tourist money has helped Thailand just like many other countries, it was her comment Quote "my money built your country" end of quote which is an entitled insult.

As for that old chime of "expat money claim keeps Thailand a float" what is that to do with this conversation? Plus only 30,000 Baht a month? Like any retired person they will spend their money regardless of which country they live in, yes it helps the econamy but not to the extent that Thailand would sink without it.
