Relax.  Dial your outrage back a bit.

Those aren't explosives.  They aren't even "grenades".

Those are inert mortar rounds, probably left over, picked up, from the Vietnam War & all the little messes afterwards.

There are no explosives inside, and they don't have fuses to make them explode.  It is obvious because the mortars are sitting on their noses where the fuses would be screwed-in to arm them.

They are as dangerous as scrap metal.

This jug-head probably wanted to bring some souviners home.  Whether legal or not, they are not active explosives.

Souvenirs? Come on...the guy's a moron. Did he seriously think he was going to get this crap into Oz?

Not smart, anyway. Who in their right mind would think that he can just take them on the plane... At least he could have tried to get permissions from both governments, then ship them by sea.

what a dickhead, if you want such items then declare them, assuming not explosive. Well done to Mrs Dumlak for spotting, she needs/deserves a promotion. Are you sure his first name is not dickhead

Absolutely agree with you, although the Thai authorities might look on  it a little differently!

Obviously a nutter who probably had a 1 pint of Foster's too many as that stuff damages your brain

When I was younger and lived in London, I frequently drank that stuff, cause I thought it was THE Australian beer. Later, when I travelled to AUS, I hardly saw it on shelves. Instead I got addicted to Aussie red wine... 😎

Maybe they not actually dangerous or threatening but seeing something suspicious through a bag by an Officer looking for such things, it requires investigation. And THAT is what the OP is about! And you know whatever, ONLY because you know what was discovered when it was opened up.
