Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet has expressed delight after two senior Chinese business executives declared the city “100% safe” for tourism and confirmed plans to bring 1,000 employees to visit in June.

Mr Huang Yang Sen, CEO of Chinese tea and supplement company Tianfu Tianmeishi, and Ms Yi Na, the firm’s Deputy CEO, visited Pattaya City Hall this week to meet with Mayor Poramet. The visit was aimed at reaffirming their company’s confidence in the safety of Pattaya amid negative perceptions in some parts of China regarding travel to Thailand.

The company, which operates over 3,000 branches across China, has long been bringing customers and staff to Thailand as part of incentive travel programmes. However, recent concerns over safety in Thailand, stemming from high-profile incidents such as call centre scams and the abduction of Chinese nationals, had raised doubts among the public and the media.

During the meeting, the executives made it clear they remained confident in Thailand’s tourism infrastructure and security. Mr Huang stated: “Chinese tourists love coming to Thailand, but there have been some concerns recently about safety. That’s why, in June 2025, we are bringing a group of 1,000 customers and representatives to Pattaya to show everyone that it is indeed safe.”

Ms Yi Na echoed these sentiments, admitting that before her recent trip, she too had been warned against travelling to Thailand by friends and family due to the country’s negative press. “But after arriving, I found Thailand and Pattaya to be completely safe,” she said. “There are many beautiful and interesting places to visit, and the fear I had before arriving quickly disappeared.”

She added that the notion of Thailand being too expensive was not a major concern, saying she found travel costs to be reasonable. “Price isn’t the real issue. Safety is what matters most to travellers. Personally, I didn’t spend an excessive amount on this trip, and I believe Thai tourism will recover strongly in the future,” she said.

The visit and endorsement by the Chinese delegation is seen as a significant boost for Pattaya’s tourism industry, particularly as it continues to recover from the impact of the pandemic and recent safety concerns.

" Personally I didn't spend an excessive amount on this trip ".

Therein lies part of the volume/value equation conundrum facing Thailand's tourism industry.

We'll just bring 1000 staff over as we have a construction project that needs doing?

but they need a better company for the steel and cement....

I wonder how many will over-stay and set-up-shop

When will Thailand wake up, exactly as the Chinese said, the trip didnt cost much because they are predominantly budget tourists so how will that fill the shortfall that Thailand needs? no more to be said.

They bring their 1000 employees for a budget holiday, they will accommodate them in Chinese owned hotels offeringall inclusive deals, use Chinese owned tour companies, fly them in on Chinese owned airlines, 1000 budget travellers will not be generating much towards the thai economy

Thumbs you have probably hit the nail on the head.  China does organized tour groups.  Who benefits from them

Possibly Siam Paragon and big box luxury stores

Alcazar and tiffany's because they can look after th tours

Bus lines

The government gets some tax dollars and can say Look, our tourism numbers are up.

Proof of that is if anyone has been out in a tourist area like Walking Street, the temples, or Phra Tamnak Mountain Viewpoint.  They go in a group, get off the bus, walk around, take pictures, then get on the bus. LOL

The average thai business gets nothing out of these tours or visitors.  It is the same in every country.

More zero dollar Chinese visitors staying in Chinese owned hotels, eating at Chinese owned restaurants and taking tours with Chinese owned tour companies?

Somehow, this smells like a TAT PR stunt and the reason she did not spend an excessive amount was because TAT paid for most of it. The same reason this person is making news about it and bragging about sending 1000 chinese over. Even part of this story sounds like a TAT PR stunt.

I think I should stop reading Thai news because its so juvenile and blatantly corrupt but I guess thats south east Asia and of course "big daddy china" who are like this tourism stunt so often at the centre of these scams! If its not a construction scam then its a call centre or a trafficking ring etc etc!! Very sad yet the Thais still embrace their northern neighbours, why,  because they, to a lesser extent are benefiting. Look at the Burmese scam centres mostly on the border with China, why because the Chinese are the ring leaders & major beneficiaries.  The Chinese government is no different and will rape and pillage the poorer countries mostly under the guise of development to the detriment of those countries and Chinas financial gain!
