Ship carrying 200 people hits the Brooklyn Bridge as search and rescue operation underway

A Mexican navy tall sailing ship hit the Brooklyn Bridge Saturday night – and a search and rescue operation is underway to pull people out of the murky waters, according to fire officials and sources.

The one of the towering 147-foot masts on the CuauhtÊmoc — which was carrying about 200 people on board — collided with the bridge before 9 p.m., sources told The Post.

Victims are being transported to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and those in critical condition will be taken to the hospital for additional treatment.

Sources said two people are in critical condition, with others wounded.

I wonder what Trump did wrong this time?

I'm sure we'll soon find out.

Fascinating videos on YouTube showing that the ship was being escorted by a tug, and was going into the bank at about the same time as it hit the bridge.

Here's an admittedly crappy screenshot.  It's worth a search on YT.  Lots of videos from different angles.

Oops ... well that should have never happened.   What's with the 'search & rescue' ?  Did a few cadets jump overboard to avoid falling debris ?

Since sailors, one would expect they know how to swim.

147 foot mast, usually doesn't fit under a 127 foot 'low tide' clearance of the Brooklyn bridge :coffee1:

Guess if we have to do a few Spec Ops raids from the sea on the cartels, the Mexican Navy wont be much trouble.

CNN is reporting Nancy Pelosi was piloting that ship after sucking down a few Long Island iced tea's.

The ship was not planning to transect the bridge. Mayor Adams indicated that the vessal had lost power. There was a combination of the tide plus a strong westerly wind at the time. Some indication of mechanical failure.

Not the first time the bridge was struck by a sailing vessel

Talk about obsessedâ€Ļanyway on topic.Im allways devastated when I see a tall ship damaged or lost it affects me deeply perhaps it’s because I was raised on a schooner and spent my first 12 years as a live aboard.obviously she lost power and was swept under the bridge.what troubles me as to why the captain didn’t order the crew out of the riggingâ€Ļ..that’s going to take some explaining.sad and my condolences to the family of the lost crewmen and the injured.

They all were illegal immigrants. ICE would have got them anyway!

A scurrilous and outrageous remark, that I hope would be replaced by a forthright apology.

The crew are members of the Mexican Navy, part of a planned goodwill visit to the United States. A poor attempt at mocking people who died.

Wow! Such ignorance.

Watch this and learn something.

I posted 19 hours ago, and at the time, that was the only info available, 'ship hit bridge', not other info, 'power failure' & etc.   Any vids I noticed, simply showed the accident with no real info.

Unavailable information, is not ignorance.  Same as the lack of info in the OP.  What ever makes you feel better.

Have a nice day.

Even in the 1st vids out it was obvious the ship was heading stern first into the bridge so there must have been a propulsion problem.

How interesting that this article doesn't account for the ship going backwards into the bridge. Nah, don't get excited over facts.

Looks like the M/E was stuck in reverse.

The reporting could use an accurate timeline.

She was under power but not under control, Moving astern faster than the wind and current when she collided with the bridge,

So the takeaway lesson is to not make conclusions and assumptions when you do not have all of the relevant facts.
