In case anyone wondered what the real issue is:  Harvard failed to protect Jewish students from harassment.  The video below explains it well.  It's amazing, but no one among the pro-Palestinian crowd has attempted to refute this video.

Shouldn't a lawsuit against Harvard for their indifference in protecting Jewish students a more appropriate consequence rather than the administration gross overreach to revoke student visas. All about due process which this adminsitration seem to trample upon. Allow Harvard to defend the case.

I heard Rubio explaining himself on this subject. What a skilled talker he is. Coming to this country on a Visa to study is a privilege. And, rightly so.

THis much in line with the current administration intolerance of criticism; using national security as a pretext to silence criticism of Rubio's foreign policy.

There have been several lawsuits by Jewish students against Harvard, including one by Shabbos Kestenbaum,  prominent in the above video.  However, lawsuits haven't always proved effective, even though the Jewish students got settlements that were in their favor.  The problem is that Harvard in practice doesn't abide by the terms to which it has agreed,  It never takes any real action against antisemitic students.  The Trump administration can swing a heavier club.

There are legal violations as cited by the federal judge to halt the adminstration's ban. The hearing is scheduled on Thursday. Let see what the verdict will be. This must be an urgent case for the hearing in such short notice.

Another astoundingly stupid move by Trump. Turning away some of the brightest young minds on the planet because his fragile ego requires him to play the strongman role.

What a complete moron.

Those foreign students barricading themselves into Uni buildings and breaking things and causing a disturbance didn't seem too bright

And how many of the total number of foreign students would that be?

Seem to recall that thousands of students  got deported

Seems you recall incorrectly. This is the summary of ChatGPT's answer to the question "How many foreign students at American universities have been deported by the Trump administration?"

About 1000 students had their visas revoked

This happened during the previous Trump administration, but didn't get much reaction:

US revokes visas for 1,000 Chinese students deemed security risk

10 September 2020

The US says it has revoked the visas of more than 1,000 Chinese students and researchers who are deemed to be a security risk.

The move follows a proclamation by President Donald Trump in May aimed at Chinese nationals suspected of having ties to the military. He said some had stolen data and intellectual property.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-54097437

Near the end of 2024,  U.S. institutions of higher learning had more than 1.1 million students enrolled.  Even if 10,000 are kicked out, that would be less than 1%.  https://www.iie.org/news/us-hosts-more-than-1-1-million-intl-students-at-higher-education-institutions-all-time-high/

Also keep in mind it's an everyday occurrence for foreign students to lose their status or have their visas revoked.  It's mostly due to the students failing to maintain their academic status by flunking out or quitting school to work illegally in the U.S.  Some have gotten in trouble with U.S. law over misdemeanors like traffic offenses or shoplifting, but sometimes more serious crimes.  That violates the terms of their visas.

Visa revocations are nothing new.  I couldn't find more up-to-date info, but between 2001 and 2015, "a State Department official says the U.S. has revoked more than 122,000 visas since 2001, including 9,500 because of the threat of terrorism."

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-s-revokes-visas-based-on-threats-of-terrorism-official-says/

I wrote about this is a different thread, but I'll repeat it here because it is relevant.  It's easy to weed out potential terrorists during their interviews at U.S. consulates.  The consular officer should be able to tell if the students are telling the truth.

I'm going to suggest to the State Department a list of questions that are absolutely foolproof in detecting pro-Hamas and other pro-terrorist students.  "Yes" or "No" are the only answers allowed; no lengthy explanations are acceptable.

1)  Is Hamas a terrorist group?

2)  Does Israel have the right to exist behind secure borders as a sovereign  state and homeland of the world's Jews?

3)  Do you unreservedly condemn the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, as terrorist actions and war crimes without provocation or justification?

4)  Should U.S. institutions of higher learning support boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel?

And because it is necessary to deny entry to the U.S. to other violent Islamists and jihadis besides Hamas, consular officers should ask these questions as well:

5)  Is violent jihad ever justified against U.S. citizens, including those with dual citizenship in Israel and U.S. military serving abroad?

6)  Should Salman Rushdie be allowed to lecture about or read from The Satanic Verses at U.S. institutions?

7)  Should U.S. universities and other institutions, public or private, be allowed to hold exhibits of the Danish Muhammad cartoons?

8)  Does Sharia law based on the Quran supersede secular law for Muslims in the U.S.?

9)  Do Jews as a group have disproportionate  or unfair influence over the economy, politics and other aspects of public life in the U.S.?

10) Do you have any qualms about attending class or taking part in campus activities with Israeli and other Jewish students?

Of course, these questions would be asked in addition to the normal pre-visa vetting process, which includes questions about membership in terrorist groups, previous criminal activity, etc.

No, both "waves of expulsion," the Chinese students in 2020 and the pro-Palestinians in 2025, have the same goal- removing foreign students who pose a threat to U.S. security.

There are vast differences in the way the expulsions were done under Biden and Trump. Biden emphasized compliance with due process such as requiring agencies to review regulations for fairness and efficiency. Trump's method was aggressive revocation policies often bypassing due process; reasons the courts intervened and ruled against these methods mostly citing insufficient evidence and procedural failures.

Harvard doesn't have any major antisemitism lawsuits pending against it.  The problem which remains is that Harvard refuses to punish minority students for antisemitic behavior.  A lot of the harassment of Jewish students is not related to demonstrations.  Jewish students are bullied and harassed in classrooms, dorms, other campus building and while walking around the campus.  The admin has failed to take any meaningful action even when the offenders were known and reported.

Harvard University settles two antisemitism lawsuits one day after Trump takes office

CNN-One day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, who has said he would “remove the Jew haters” if reelected, Harvard University has settled two lawsuits accusing the Ivy League school of failing to protect Jewish students from antisemitic bullying and harassment on campus.

In the settlement with the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, Jewish Americans for Fairness in Education, and Students Against Antisemitism — a group of six Jewish students — Harvard agreed to make several changes to how it addresses antisemitism on campus.
