London Embassy - Non O retirement Visa

Featured Replies

Has anyone recently got a Non-O retirment visa for Thailand from the Thai Embassy in London?

Im looking to confirm if they only want 18k GBP in the bank with a single current balance statement and do not require it to be there for a period of time like the last three months.

Many thanks

that is posted on their website concerning the 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement

I got a non-O visa from London at the end of January this year. I keep 800,000B permanently in a Thai account for this purpose. A few years ago I tried to prove 65,000B / month income but that proved impossible.

All round it's pretty daft and unnecessarily onerous but Thailand is what it is and it's best to give them exactly what they want if you don't want to waste your time and money.

I'm no expert but it seems to me there isn't a way around this one.

BTW If you are planning on extending it is worth trying to get your TM30 sorted reasonably soon after your arrival.

If you are in UK and get a 90 day stay on retirement by applying to London and showing at least 3 months income of 65k a month into a UK bank. What do you do if you want to extend from the 90 days to a year once in Thailand? How do the proof of finances work then?

Grateful for your clarification.

When you enter Thailand with a Non O you will be given a 90 day permission of stay stamp.

You need to transfer 800k baht to a Thai bank account in your name only.

After the funds have been in account for 2 months apply for extension in the last 30 days.

Do you have Thai bank account?

No, but I suspect it might be easier opening one if you already have the 90 day permission to stay stamp, or does that not necessarily follow?

Having a Non O certainly will enable/assist you to open Thai bank account.

The bank may also request a certificate of residence from local immigration office.

so no one has actually done the route - whack 18k into a bank and hope up to London for a Non O retirement visa?

From the eVisa application...

  1. Financial evidence showing monthly income of no less than 65,000 THB or having the current balance of 800,000 THB (e.g., bank statements for the last three months, sponsor letter)

To me that reads as equivalent to 800k current balance (not seasoned)

Just obtain 3 month bank statement.
