President Trump on Friday took aim at another giant US corporation in his ongoing trade war, threatening Apple (AAPL) with increased duties if the company does not make iPhones in the US. He also attacked the European Union and said he was recommending a "straight 50%" tariff on EU-imported products beginning next weekend.

"I have long ago informed Tim Cook of Apple that I expect their iPhone’s that will be sold in the United States of America will be manufactured and built in the United States, not India, or anyplace else," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "If that is not the case, a Tariff of at least 25% must be paid by Apple to the U.S."

Apple claims the iPhone would cost 3500$ if it was manufactured in the US.

So Trump doesn't know what he's talking about ?? Or what's the deal ??

Only the very rich would pay that much for a phone.

Manchild who is president of the US throws his pacificier out of the pram again.

Don't worry.  The Republicans will lose in the Congressional mid-terms, and at this rate AOC or Gavin Newsom will be your next president in 2028.  Different children; different prams (baby buggies in American English).  The same stinky mess when you pick the baby up 💩

Yeah, I know I know.  DJT makes you go crazy.  Your not the only one.  But here's reality:  both parties work for the benefit of their donors and special interests who fund them.  As George Carlin aptly stated, "It's A Big Club And You Ain't In It!"  They collectively urinate on the smiling, upturned faces of the working class and what use to be the middle class - whether they be waving MAGA red or LGBT+100 rainbow flags - before hitting them right between the eyes with the "money shot" (if you don't understand that vernacular, there is no money in a "money-shot," well, unless you are Bonnie Blue).  The only groups getting paid are the mega-rich regardless of their party affiliation, and those who come to America through the back-door which gets propped open every time the Democrats rule the roost.  As the years go by, what's left of the middle class and working class is more likely to be found living rough on the streets sans government assistance or medical care.

One thing for sure - Trump is not an economist and he quite obviously doesn't have competent economists in his administration.
This tariff war will blow-back on the US economy (monetary and fiscal).  And who will get screwed?  Average Americans. Which is why there will be shake ups in the next elections, not that it will make any difference, it won't.
Just like the Democrats did with Biden's cognitive mess, the Republicans will do with the economy:  "Don't believe your eyes!!! Joe's as sharp as a tack and the US economy under DJT is the biggest and bestest and most beautiful economy ever."

Blah blah blah.

Blah blah blah should've been the first line not the last.

I love it when both the Left and the Right show their true colors:  All of them are intolerant.

Here's reality.

As Trump Makes America Unaffordable Again, all of us living here should enjoy the benefit of increased domestic, ASEAN, and Eurasian trade.  Apple has always been a product for people with more disposal income than the average pleb.  I'd consider buying one if they ever became competitively priced with Android-based phones and x86-based computers as opposed to being a status symbol like Mercedes, BMW, and Rolex.  The concept of building proprietary operating systems ($$$Cha-Ching$$$) that runs on proprietary hardware ($$$Cha-Ching$$$) is eventually going to bite them in the ass.  Personally I could care less if Apple tanks.  Then they may be forced to sell their products at competitive prices to folks in the Global South and developing world at prices average people can afford.

So an Indian made iPhone + 25% tariff is the cheaper option

Perhaps that could be a valid reason why manufacturers went offshore to manufacture the same item at a lower cost to the consumer and still make a profit.

Under Trump's tariffs, it will cost the end user, who will have to pay more for the same item.

Who gains from all this?

The manufacturer who will have to sell more?

The exporter who will have to sell more?

The importer who most likely pass the increase straight on to the end customer.

The end user, who will have to pay more for the same item?

The tax revenue department who will get less revenue as less items will be sold?

The manufacturer who may have to finance building new factories in the USA out of their profits?

IF they build new factories, they will take the opportunity to install the latest robots which in turn will mean LESS jobs available for workers in the USA.

So in the end, who actually gains and who loses?

The truth is almost all the mice are made in China!  It's all a giant conspiracy.  GOP gotta outlaw Chinese mice!

Someone should be along soon to tell you that you cannot take this stance.  The bla blabla vs bla bla...that their bla bla is better than the other one.

I mentioned during the election that both sides simply trotted out their own billionaires....then the attacks and justification began.

Even though I was 100 percent correct. Cue angry my side is bla bla bla comment. Remember when Trump attended the Clinton daughter wedding. Ya me too.

Great post. Thanks for speaking reality in this swamp of ideology.

Of course someone will be along soon to throw out the same boring labels and talking points.
