Pinkeye

Featured Replies

Has anybody here suffered from pinkeye ?

i caught a dose about a week ago and both the eye clinic and local hospital were not that worried.

They prescribed drops and antibiotics and said wait it out and come back in a week.

i have found this quite surprising and as it has not abated, i am asking for other peoples experiences.

This might help..........https://www.aao.org/eye-health/diseases/pink-eye-quick-home-remedies

Hopefully the eye clinic knows best but if antibiotics aren't working go back or go somewhere else

Had it, and it will pass on it's own.  I didn't even bother with meds or drops.

Antibodies may or may not help, depending if it is a viral or bacterial infection.

For bacterial, Cipro is available in TH, although, if not prescribed that already, do NOT, start using.   I actually did that once, even waited till the half life was supposedly well past, and started one penicillin based antibody after a previous one.  Big F'g mistake, and my only oops of self medicating for decades of.

Talk about muscle & joint pain ... Ouch.

Pink eye (if that is what you ،have) is often viral. But antibiotic drops may stiill be given as secondary bacterial infections can occur.

It can easily last 2 weeks.

If it goes much beyond that, an allergic rather than infective  origin may need to be considered.

I got minor conjunctivitis a couple weeks ago, coincidentally after I went to a hospital for an eye test and you use those machines, my guess is I caught it from a machine. We know they are good at cleaning floors but other things not so good

See an eye doctor. I am constantly, yearly, getting eye infections. Don't use the pharmacies generic drops, waste of time.

I went to a Wellmed doctor with pinkeye after Songkran last year, first question they ask is about unprotected sex as it can be chlamydia or gonorrhea! The doc just looked at my eye without doing any tests and because of the appearance, gave me antibiotics. It didn't help. A week later I went to the hospital and was looked at by a proper eye doctor who inspected my eye through a scope and deduced it was viral based on the pitting she saw and gave me steroids and I improved rapidly. What I learned was to go to a specialist who has the extra tools to do a proper diagnosis.  Best of luck

In fact, conjunctivitis on eye pressure tonometers is spread because they're sanitised with alcohol not bleach.

Use a betadine eyedrops solution or gel.  Used it in UK to get rid of conjunctivitis (pinkeye) a few times.  Very effective.

So if I had asked for the equipment to be cleaned it wouldn't of helped, I'm sure they wouldn't use bleach

Conjunctivitis is the correct name. The treatment you describe sounds about right to me. It's a pretty common ailment unfortunately and you need to be careful your loved ones don't catch it from you.

Oh it goes without saying YOU MUST GO TO A REAL EYE DOCTER to get a real check up. 100% Real eye specialist!

Unfortunately, yes.

And as it is very contagious, as @Magictoad mentioned,  your other eye will probably get it a couple of days later,  too. Then you know,  it was really viral conjunctivitis.

An eye doctor can give you steroid eye drops, but don't buy them yourself.

They can easily make you blind.

That's the only thing that destroys viral pinkeye. To measure eye pressure they actually touch the device to your eyeball. Never seen one use bleach, unfortunately. I don't need any iatrogenic eye problems.

I woke up with a gunked up eye last weekend, used an eye wash to clear it and have done so twice a day since, its has now cleared up.
