I've been location-independent myself for 16 years and I can assure you it isn't possible to actually work at the beach.

All I'm saying is that in my experience, those who post pics like the one below (usually with clichés such as "this is my office") are often posers looking for validation on social media, wannabe YouTubers etc.

Yeah, maybe some do that, They are not working, just looking for attention from their friends or followers.

Not trying to be negative, just curious, are these the ten most common roles foreigners fall into in Thailand, or are there others people have come across?

1. Pattaya YouTuber

2. Shoestring blogger

3. Freelance English teacher with no visa

4. Crypto bro not making it

5. Spiritual nomad or tantric healer

6. Digital nomad come consultant

7. Visa fixer middleman

8. Washed-up DJ or bartender

9. Illegal tour guide or motorcycle rental hustler

10. Illegal dive instructor or restaurant worker

All looks very negative to me. For someone who wasn't trying you managed it anyway!

I am not in any of those on the list

Which one are you?

How about the secret squirrels who claim to be government agents.

They say things like: I need to always be ready cause my government might send a jet to pick me up tomorrow for a special assignment.

I get a monthly payment from the Australian Government, alas no plane.

I'm no Secret Squirrel, only an Old Aged Pensioner

Most I frequently mix with

Retired and do nothing else than ride big bikes and drink beer, married or with girlfriends

1/3 working in international companies

Construction management

Business adviser/coach

Real estate agent

One bar owner

Two restaurant owners

And one hotel owner

And quite a few farmers, where none make any money, but keeps the family busy and out of trouble for most parts.

Myself are here on holiday, making sure family do half of what I said they should do or done.

This list appears to be city-centric.

There's a completely different (and contented) world outside the cities.

He's a total Chav.

I gather "chav" is the equivalent of a "bogan" in the Australian slang

May I ask kindly that we speak a "universal" language ,one in which in our globalist diverse communities can be together in harmony .....thankyou !!!!!!!

Not seen happily retired, living with my girlfriend of 14 years, in the house we built together, with daughter and 4 year old grandson.

Far enough away from any of the aforementioned categories.

Like the stock market crash?

the ups and downs you mean? Yeah, being manipulated with his rich cronies for insider trading i.e. just like his new justice minister sold 1 million and bought back  a short time later as he announced a pause in tariffs so she spent 1-5 million buying it cheaper just so she could get even richer.  Also being done within the Congress...i.e. MTG got caught doing it too.  And the market still hasn't gone back up to the height when Trump assumed the office in January.

Yes, the vast majority who have regular jobs and barely feature on this forum. They can be distinguished by their work permits, not living in Pattaya, their lack of tattoos, membership of the British Club or RBSC. They don't feed off gormless tourists/ low grade "residents" like most of your 10 categories.Better educated and higher salaried too.

I know a few real influencers who make $1200 to $2000 plus a month, for 15 hours a month of work. Not a bad gig.

If they are putting out decent content without the 'I'm an influencer' attitude, the fair play.

Used to be a lot of time share touts in Phuket. Stop you on the street. One time I got a free week at a fancy hotel but then had to spend a fair few hours with this guy who was not thrilled when he worked out I was not gonna buy his terrible time share thing. Wouldn't bother now but fun to get a free week.

About 20 years ago in Bangkok there was a timeshare scam that seemed to have some connection with the Taipan Hotel there.

also saving money could cost one if the value of that currency continues dropping!  One can save money with tariffs because one refuses to pay more for everything that hasn't really increased in quality, only in value - cost.  So as boss#1 says, 2 dolls or 5 pencils instead to wasting by buying too many! - that a quote.
