Only an idiot would complain about a topic on the capital. Total morons.

It's not the topic we're complaining about Susan. It's the undercurrent of cheapness (cannot emphasise this enough) and anti-farang sentiment that you exude in your posts. That's why you get such negative responses, because you actively invite it but then have the audacity to complain about it.

I hate it.  Nasty little Taxi drivers that have no map, no gps and no clue where to go.  Low quality food.  Restaurants smell of urine and are filthy.  Rivers of feces.

Really? I thought they were all freelancers

All of them?

I think that dependes on the bar and place you visit. There might be a chance you meet a freelancer, or whatever you like her to be, but finding a lady you can live and thrive with? I believe is more up to us than them.

You treat them like an prostitute, prostitutes is what you get most likely.

The only day you see me in Bkk is when I need the Embassy.....

In my case it's only been when I've needed to renew my (British) passport renewal in person. As soon as I've done the necessary business it was back on the road home straight away since the less time I had to spend in that ghastly place the better.

And next time I'm due to renew my passport (in 2032), I'll probably use an agent. So, fingers firmly crossed, I might never need to set foot in that particular dump ever again!😝

The British Consulate?

Why do you love it? Or why do you hate it? Or maybe neutral on it. Couple of days then done.

Go and find out by yourself. One way ticket please.👍

I went to Chiang Rai once. You couldnt pay me to go back there.

How long did you stay in Chiang Rai, to form this opinion?

The image of Bangkok as an inferred hub of intellectuals was enough to have me choking on my coffee.

For me, it's a one night stopover traveling between Melbourne and Chiang Rai, not even that going the other way.

Chiang Rai is walkable in the centre. Pleasant city just a bit quiet. Rooms prices are cheap. The roads to the north very nice driving.

I liked Chian Rai okay, I could live there. I like the county, but my wife's a city girl, and her family is in Bangkok.

Maybe it's just the fact that I'm no longer 25, but once upon a time, I loved big cities. And back then I'm sure I would have loved Bangkok. Today?  I wouldn't live there. I thought about it, but came to my senses. I have no reason whatsoever to be there, long term.

For me, an occasional week or month in Bangkok would be enough.  Have fun for a while and then back to a tranquil beach neighborhood.

Bkk is fantastic if you're happy spending money.

while this has always been true, the amount of money needed has increased significantly

It still seems pretty affordable. Sure, it's more than I spent when I was out in Prachinburi, but not by too much.

About 25 years. First twenty working in Prachinburi, last five retired in Bangkok.

You?

Greater Bangkok is a big place and has swallowed up Nonthaburi etc.

There are parts I dislike , the touristy parts where the low life and scammers are drawn and then there are places that are normal , cheaper and interesting.

The hotel we use is brand new , soft beds , smart TV with Netflix,  great on-site food and no tourists and good value at 800 baht.  Avoid Sukhumvit like the plague these days.

I like the nature better. The best things about the country are not manmade

Behold, not a <deleted> hole. But who needs that when you can have mega malls in Bangkok, right?

The condos seem to be a bit undersized to me, that's why I bought a grubby shophouse.

Newer condos are mostly small, older buildings have larger units.

Bangkok is ok to live in if you have a car and can leave to other places for a couple of days on a regular basis.

Bangkok is great 👍 if you live there, but complicated if you just visit.

I lived there for around 20 years. Have lots of employed mates with whom I can hang out. Taxis are OK but you have to know roughly where you are going and flag down a taxi going in the correct direction.

I am not a foodie just a regular guy so Michelin stars don't concern me.

I had a great time there living in a small street shophouse. 7-Eleven, BigC Miini, a bar and a restaurant on the street. Running with mates Mon, Wed, Saturday. Hung over on the other days.

Yes BTS is not as good as it used to be. Too crowded now.

I don't love Bangkok but I also don't hate it.

I love Bangkok and hua-hin.Havent been in Pattaya for 13 years.Lived in surin before and that was wery boring.

At 8 pm the whole village get quiet.Never ever again at the countryside.Hapoy single enjoying life as a free man

I was usually drunk and on the way home before it got busy. Grace Hotel was a dump.

About as long as you stayed in Krung Thep to form your useless fkn opinion of the place.

Can I ask what you like of Bkk? Thank you.🙏

The big city vibe mixed with the casual bar life, real bars not shack types as Pattaya was 28 years ago. Yes there were a few like that in BKK then but not many.

My office was in Central Bangkok, so I lived for 11 years in lower Sukhumvit.  I liked it for the malls, interesting bars, live music venues, restaurants, parks, coffee shops,  Sunday Brunch in nice hotels and the public transport.

Hated the traffic and the pollution .... had a constant dry cough for years.

But all other cities in Thailand are very second rate compared to Bangkok, so I still have a small condo in Bangkok (but not in the centre now), and also have a house near the sea - to get the best of both worlds.

I also like the countryside, but wouldn't want to cut all ties with the big city.
