Minor Quakes Signal Increased Seismic Activity on Thai-Myanmar Border

The Thai Meteorological Department's Earthquake Monitoring Division has identified a series of minor tremors in Mae Hong Son, Thailand, and adjacent regions in Myanmar, signalling tectonic activity that warrants attention despite the lack of immediate damage.

Early on June 6, 2025, a magnitude 1.9 earthquake was recorded at 6:10 a.m. in the Wiang Nuea Subdistrict, Pai District of Mae Hong Son Province. The epicentre was located at 19.424°N, 98.464°E, and at a shallow depth of just 1 kilometre, near residential zones. Although minor and non-destructive, this tremor is considered significant for ongoing monitoring.

In conjunction with the Thai incident, Myanmar experienced three consecutive earthquakes earlier that morning, drawing increased scrutiny from Thai geologists due to their proximity to the Thai border. These events were recorded as follows:

  1. At 2:21 a.m., a 1.7 magnitude quake struck Myanmar at 19.172°N, 97.094°E, approximately 93 kilometres southwest of Mueang District, Mae Hong Son.
  2. A 2.0 magnitude earthquake was observed at 6:04 a.m. at 19.176°N, 96.540°E, about 150 kilometres southwest of Mueang District.
  3. A 2.2 magnitude tremor occurred at 7:40 a.m. at 20.925°N, 98.069°E, around 157 kilometres northwest of Pang Mapha District.

The frequency of these tremors suggests ongoing tectonic movement along the Thai-Myanmar border. While the quakes are minor, their pattern of occurrence highlights the need for continuous monitoring and preparedness.

Residents in affected and potentially at-risk areas are urged to remain informed via updates from the Thai Meteorological Department. Familiarising oneself with earthquake preparedness measures is recommended to ensure the safety of lives and property should more significant seismic activity occur.

the north & south poles aren't about to switch BUT the Magnetic north & south poles have been slowly moving for years and are long overdue for a full flip. However, I don't believe it will happen in our lifetime.

Worrying about this on worldwide scale?

I wonder if they're actually measuring explosions from the civil war going on?

Those readings are about right...

Still a good idea to continuously monitor and prepare.  But not just for earthquakes.
