Residents in Rawai sub-district of Mueang district, Phuket, are expressing deep concern for a German man who has been visibly sleeping on the streets with a severe leg injury for several days. This plea for assistance comes as locals have repeatedly observed him on the roadside near Chalong Intersection, evidently lacking adequate food and basic necessities. A serious wound on his right leg shows troubling signs of decay, sparking fears that his health could rapidly deteriorate.

Pictures of the man were circulated via the Phuket Times Facebook page on 8th June, as community members urged local media to highlight the situation in order to prompt action from government officials. Despite the severity of his condition, previous attempts by some passersby to offer food and assistance were met with refusal, adding complexity to the situation.

Local accounts indicate that the man has a history in the region—previously living in the Karon area of Phuket. Police have reportedly engaged with the man before, taking him to his embassy, but he refused consular help, resulting in his continued street dwelling. His behaviour towards those offering help has been described as inappropriate, deterring further personal intervention from some individuals.

Additionally, there are claims from a Thai woman, who wishes to stay anonymous, alleging that the man has defrauded several local businesses, including hotels and car rental services, with her loss amounting to 4,000 baht. Despite complaints filed with the police, no concrete actions have been taken so far.

Interestingly, another local, Pornwilai Chaipakdee, recounts a recent conversation where the man claimed to have a Thai wife and assured he did not lack essentials, also stating possession of a motorcycle and valid travel documents—though he refused to provide proof, showing only a doctor's appointment slip. His observed tendency to beg for money, purportedly to buy beer, further complicates the residents’ sympathy and understanding of his situation.

There are growing concerns about the man's mental health, as noted by locals witnessing unusual behaviour such as him pouring water over himself. Despite repeated pleas for intervention, there has been no official response or action from governmental authorities to help resolve the situation or provide necessary support.

The community's efforts to bring attention to this matter highlight significant underlying issues of concern, including mental health awareness, social safety nets, and support for foreign nationals in distress. A comprehensive response from local authorities could ensure not only the man's well-being but also address residents' calls for action to peacefully resolve ongoing community issues.

Send him home where health care is free if living on dole. Even shelter is free.

Wasted time to keep him here

I just want to comment on the sentence: "There are growing concerns about the man's mental health, as noted by locals witnessing unusual behaviour such as him pouring water over himself." I must be off my rocker then. Because of the heat, when I'm outside in the garden, I often pour water over myself to cool down. How am I going to tell my 26 cats that a madman is looking after them? ... Oh no! I feel another urge coming on to pour water over myself .....

Embassies in Europe used to be good for this sort of experience.

Maybe RTP will eventually arrest him and he/ she will get help.

Otherwise I think it will be R.I.P for another European whatever the underlying issues.

Little sympathy for this obnoxious repeat offender taking advantage of people's good nature. Does nothing and expects the universe to provide. Doesn't surprise me in the least that the Thai authorities don't want anything to do with him. Too much expense, too much paper work. Better to let this individual die. No loss to the world, It's his choice.

Wouldn't deportation help :cheesy:

Does Germany provide transport back to the motherland, and then recover it from subject's finance.   I think the USA does that.  Fly you back, then garnish you income for repayment.

'Fit to Fly' paperwork might be a problem.

Wonder why consul service / embassy won’t help

and if his visa is out ,  police can deport him back to his home country ?
surely the police have a record of where  what and when he came to Thailand

Probably because nobody reported him yet, or been arrested.   Simply not having a residence is enough for deportation, let alone no fund to support self.

Possibly a consequence of using an agent to skirt financial requirements if on -0- visa.

Sure he'll get the attention he needs now, since in th news, as hard to ignore.

His entire homeland has probably already been overrun with the usual infestation, making it difficult for the indigenous inhabitants to receive medical, housing, education  or any other essential service these days. If the locals are so concerned, maybe they could have a whip round to pay for his damaged leg, or maybe they just don't want him dying on the street creating a foul odor and driving potential tourists away.

You've just proved you are as nutty as a fruitcake by admitting to living with 26 cats.

Apart from his sore foot/ankle he looks in tip top condition.
