A 30-year-old man has been re-arrested in Pran Buri district, central Thailand, after assaulting a traffic police officer shortly following his release from custody. The individual, identified as Panya, initially found himself in trouble for causing disturbances under alcohol's influence, prompting his detainment.

Upon release on June 9, Panya became agitated over the absence of transport to take him home and lashed out by assaulting Police Lieutenant Arthit Khwanthong. The officer sustained facial swelling from multiple blows during the incident. Earlier, Panya had been released after overnight detention for displaying calmer behaviour, though this proved short-lived.

The situation escalated when, visibly upset, Panya hurled a water bottle at a traffic booth on Phet Kasem Road. Officers stationed at the booth confronted him, resulting in a heated argument. Driven by frustration, Panya attacked Lt. Arthit, leading to a scuffle stopped only by police intervention.

Post-incident, Lt. Arthit sought medical attention and reported the attack. Police Colonel Hongprom Wissitchanachai, Commander of Pran Buri Police Station, reported the initial detention stemmed from complaints about Panya's erratic behaviour and suspected weapon possession. Although no weapon was found, his intoxicated state warranted an overnight stay in custody.

Despite showing signs of calm the following morning, Panya's erratic behaviour continued after his release; he damaged a security camera in the holding cell, prompting his rearrest. Authorities are probing potential underlying issues for his conduct, such as stress or drug influence.

Witnesses at the scene described Panya's demeanour as frenetic, likening it to someone possibly under drug effects. They recounted the unfolding drama, detailing how officers tried to contain Panya before the assault took place. Now, Panya faces serious charges including assaulting a police officer and property damage as investigations proceed.
