I am trying to make this short, something I have never experienced.

I went on a trip up north to Chiang Mai and Lampang. Found a good restaurant.

So I thought, "Let's have dinner." Being hungry after a long drive, I asked for a menu card, only to be told there was none. I asked politely, "How can I know what to order?"

The answer was "You just have to log on to our website and order,, not having my smartphone

with me, still in my luggage. Why can't they have just a single menu card for people without smartphones ? I noticed a few

people left as well. I am not here complaining, but I guess they could have at least one single one

for people without smartphones. Rant over.

The ones that are really fun are those restaurants with only Thai on their online ordering app.  And, they only take digital money.

Then they wonder why they're not as busy as they used to be...

At least the prices on both screens are the same. Imagine if the prices in English were higher!

Malaysia went down this path during Covid. I've walked out of a few restaurants there when ordering by phone was the only option. I will give the Kenny Rogers in KL a good review. I didn't have internet on my phone, so the waitress used her own phone to order for me. I like Nando's too, but in KL they lost me as a customer when phone ordering became the only option.

Trying to find your way around some menus and trying to make changes like no ice with your drink is just too hard. While McDonald's has big order screens, they will still let you order at the counter so you can avoid the screen prompts wanting you to upsize or buy extra items.

I ate recently at one of those Japanese hot pot restaurants where they only had a Thai online menu.  Had I not been in the company of a Thai, I'd have had to walk out.  Then they only took digital payments so I had to give my Thai friend the cash and she paid the bill. Being a tourist, I don't use Thai QR payments.

If you order via the apps you usually get better promotions, I do it when in store, KFC, Burger King, McDonald's

I guess you can avoid bank apps ?? Then to check your balance you need to get in line at the bank to update the bank book? Wowzers.

YES !

I go to the bank 3 times a year. One to put money from 400k to 800 k, two to get bankletter and statement for extention and three to remove 400k , 3 months after extention.

Move with tech

If I ever encounter a restaurant like this I will move to a different restaurant, and I encourage everyone else to do the same.

Do not support the digital panopticon of which this is another step towards.

Lazada also forces you to use the App ...

Bolt ...

Seriously, not sure how anyone survives or why anyone would to go great lengths to avoid getting one.

You  can get an older used model for not that much.

Best of luck avoiding modern technology for no apparent reason.

I doubt they care, it's probably much more efficient, order using the app, less staff required, maybe better prices who knows

No they don't   https://www.lazada.co.th

Yeah, to validate the Wallet I had to use the App.

And they use facial recognition , scan your face ...

If you ever need to do a return, you will the Wallet and the App.

You will probably welcome the digital panopticon with glee..ordering a bug burger  once you have enough carbon credit points.

Regarding bugs, god help us all. Hope we figure out a better way to feed the planet.

Regarding carbon footprint, I have already reduced my carbon footprint willingly on my own without Big Brother pushing me. And I quite enjoy having simplified my life

Efficient ??  why not just have everyone hooked up to an intravenous drip

no need for a store at all or employees or real food.

We have already  its called farming..."strange" how they are trying to get rid of farming  to

"save the planet"  without food everyone dies and thus the planet is saved.

Maybe there's too many people on the planet.

Would need to crunch the numbers. How many cows do we need? And is there enough farmland?

One prediction I've come across is that AI may finally crack the code of lab grown meat which is healthy -- unlike the current lab grown meat which is very unhealthy.

Or if not crack the code of lab grown meat, then new tech in terms of vertical farms or sth that makes it more sustainable to feed 8 billion people.

Sorry, that's all I got.

Refunds are returned to where you paid except Cod so avoid that, no need

I pay COD because a local Thai told me deliveries are not reliable. (but I think that's not true)

Anyway, I don't have a credit card.

You use a credit card?

Pay using QR is easiest, you have a Thai bank account?

The delivery is reliable with Lazada even if you pay in advance, right?
A local says it's better to pay COD, but it's a pain in the butt. You have to be home when they deliver.

Thai bank account yes. QR works how? It links to the bank account?

Works perfectly for me and use probably twice a week. You see a QR code, I do a screenshot on my phone then open banking app and scan the QR code, complete payment, any refunds will go in same account

I don't have a Thai credit card.

Not sure if I can use a western credit card for Lazada, but Scuba's option seems better.

Or then again, Lazada can also refund into the Lazada wallet. So if a western credit card works, that might be an option. Just wonder if scammers get into that site to steal credit card info.

I thought you just meant a credit card in general.
