Washington Warns Allies Against Backing Palestine at UN Summit

The Trump administration has issued a stern warning to its international allies: support for a United Nations conference on Palestinian statehood could lead to serious diplomatic fallout. In a confidential cable sent Tuesday, the U.S. government signaled that any participation in what it terms “anti-Israel actions” would be considered opposition to American foreign policy and might result in consequences.

The upcoming UN gathering, co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia in New York, is expected to explore the framework for a two-state solution that envisions a future Palestinian state alongside Israel. Organizers say the goal is to provide a pathway to peace while ensuring the security of Israel. But Washington sees the conference as a threat to its efforts to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages.

“We are urging governments not to participate in the conference, which we view as counterproductive to ongoing, lifesaving efforts to end the war in Gaza and free hostages,” the cable read, as reported by Reuters.

One of the most controversial elements surrounding the event is French President Emmanuel Macron’s suggestion that France could formally recognize a Palestinian state. French officials have reportedly attempted to ease tensions with the United States, Israel’s most powerful ally, but the Trump administration remains firm in its disapproval.

“The United States opposes any steps that would unilaterally recognise a conjectural Palestinian state, which adds significant legal and political obstacles to the eventual resolution of the conflict and could coerce Israel during a war, thereby supporting its enemies,” the cable stated.

In a broader context, the United States is not only critical of the conference’s goals but also wary of any repercussions that might target Israel diplomatically or economically. “The United States opposes the implied support of the conference for potential actions including boycotts and sanctions on Israel as well as other punitive measures,” the document added.

Recent international developments have added to the friction. This week, the United Kingdom and Canada—both G7 allies of the United States—joined other nations in imposing sanctions on two Israeli far-right government ministers. These measures are aimed at pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to bring the ongoing Gaza conflict to an end.

Israel has condemned the UN summit, arguing that it unjustly rewards Hamas, the Islamist group behind the deadly October 7, 2023 attack that sparked the current war. Israeli officials have also urged France to refrain from recognizing a Palestinian state, arguing that doing so would embolden hostile forces.

As of now, neither the U.S. State Department nor the French foreign ministry has issued a public response to media inquiries regarding the content of the cable or the diplomatic friction it has caused.

Does the USA have any allies left, other than Israel and Saudi Arabia?

As Israel just attacked Iran I imagine the US will need a new threat , a new tactic .... to keep people siding with Palestine against Israel.

Almost five months into The Donald's presidency and things are percolating along.   :coffee1:

A warning from a toothless pussy.

Trump is completely lost. He has no idea. He and Netanyahu are not men of peace.

From Thomas Friedman. Words of truth.

Israelis, diaspora Jewry and friends of Israel everywhere need to understand that the way Israel is fighting the war in Gaza today is laying the groundwork for a fundamental recasting of how Israel and Jews will be seen the world over.

It won’t be good. Police cars and private security at synagogues and Jewish institutions will increasingly become the norm; Israel, instead of being seen by Jews as a safe haven from antisemitism, will be seen as a new engine generating it; sane Israelis will line up to immigrate to Australia and America rather than beckon their fellow Jews to come Israel’s way.

That dystopian future is not here yet, but if you don’t see its outlines gathering, you are deluding yourself.

Fortunately, more and more retired and reserve duty Israeli Air Force pilots, as well as retired Army and security officers, are seeing this gathering storm and declaring they will not be silent or complicit in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ugly, nihilistic policy in Gaza. They have begun to urge Jews in America and elsewhere to speak up — SOS: Save Our Ship — before the widening moral stain of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza becomes irreversible.

First, the back story: Israel months ago destroyed Hamas as an existential military threat. Given that, the Netanyahu government should be telling the Trump administration and Arab mediators that it’s ready to withdraw from Gaza in a phased manner and be replaced by an international/Arab/Palestinian Authority peacekeeping force — provided that the Hamas leadership agrees to return all remaining living and dead hostages and leave the strip.

this war to keep itself in power. Nothing would do more to pressure Hamas to accept a cease-fire than to be denounced across the world, on college campuses and in high-profile demonstrations from those who have been giving this hate-driven organization a free pass. This is what being pro-Palestinian really sounds like.

Many in the diaspora have voiced concerns publicly. Consequently, some have faced harsh criticism. Accused of weakening Israel or betraying their connection to the Jewish state, they are told that those who live abroad or do not serve in the I.D.F. must keep silent. We categorically reject the notion that Jews in the diaspora must remain silent on matters concerning Israel. … To those who fear that public criticism undermines Israel, we say that open, honest dialogue only reinforces our democracy and our security.

Two highly respected former Israeli Air Force pilots, Brig. Gen. Asaf Agmon and Col. Uri Arad (who was a P.O.W. in Egypt during the October 1973 war), published an open letter in Hebrew in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, addressed to their colleagues still serving in the Air Force. Both men are members of Forum 555 Patriots, an impressive group of around 1,700 Israeli Air Force pilots, some retired and some still serving as reservists, which originally formed to resist Netanyahu’s efforts to undermine Israeli democracy with a judicial coup.

The disproportionate harm to uninvolved civilians cannot be denied. …

This is a moment of reckoning. It is not too late. We call on our fellow active duty pilots: Do not continue to avoid asking questions. … Because you are the ones who will have to bear the moral consequences of your actions for the rest of your lives. You will have to face your children and grandchildren and explain how such unimaginable destruction occurred in Gaza, how so many innocent children perished by the deadly killing machine you piloted.

Trump wanting to force out every last Palestinian, wanting to build hotels  and resorts there, creating a new ‘Riviera’ and making billions and billions of dollars wouldn’t happen to have anything to do with this ‘warning’, right?

I guess these are the same allies who’s economies Trump has been attacking with tariffs.

US diplomatic relations pished away leaving only threats.

Sense from France who is co hosting the conference and issued this on the 6th June.

France backs off from Palestinian state recognition, urges KSA to normalize with Israel

“France could have taken a symbolic decision. But this is not the choice we made because we have a particular responsibility,” Barrot claimed, referencing France's role as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. He said that recognition must carry diplomatic weight and ideally be accompanied by reciprocal moves, notably the recognition of Israel by key Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia.

Barrot also reiterated France's view that any political resolution must include the “absolute necessity” of disarming Hamas, the Palestinian resistance movement that governs Gaza.

Hey donnie D, got news for you ;

"'The world" and your allies dont give a f... what you think anymore !

Let that (maybe) penetrade to your empty brain 🙂

Just because so many countries are afraid to stick their neck out, lest Islamist militants strike in their societies, it won't stop Donald and Israel from sorting things out.

Despite the soft lefties, naive support for Hamas, most countries will cheer once they, along with Hezbollah, and the Houthis are demolished. Then maybe we can move on the two state solution that Israel accepted in 1947 and which the hard core Islamists violently rejected.

At the same time, post WWII, the Moslems along with Hindus in the sub-continent had to endure more grueling population movements, with many more millions involved. Imagine if the Moslems in the subcontinent had been led by the ME Jihadists. So many people were caught in the chaos of post WWII upheavals in Europe and Asia

The world moved on with occasional flare ups, while the Moslem clans of the ME been actively fighting ever since.

Coming from land of the free? The tentacles have a stranglehold on the land of the free. Unshakable yourselves and rejoin the rest of the world.

Anyway, due to current events  there will be no conference. Potential participants may not be able/willing to travel under such circumstances.

Ah, I get it!  A reference to the tentacles  represented by Greta Thunberg's deleted octopus!
