Unless you are into the 'arts' (music, plays) or museums, there isn't much to do in any country, if not an outdoors kind of person.   Outside of TH, I traveled to places for nice diving or museums.  So S. Florida & Caribbean was my playground, or city with good museums, and Amsterdam a good example of that.   Every country has good food and or nice landscape, some more diverse.  Plus of being born in USA.

Theme parks, if you have kids, or a kid at heart.  Can't beat a good roller coaster ride.  Throw in some thrill seeking BS.

Plenty of 'summertime' activities in TH, landscape viewing from low or high perch, or hiking among.  Water sports, though no white water rafting / canoeing.  Scuba diving is just OK.

Scratch cold weather, need snow activities.

We go O&A, but just for that landscape viewing, from a nice perch, is about it.  Too much been there, don't that, as I might have mentioned 10 or 100 times ... really small country.  Journey to are nice and scenic, though destination is more sedentary now :cheesy:

Balcony, roadside viewpoint, or nice restaurant or coffee shop viewpoint.  Only challenging thing of late, is finding a pet friendly bungalow with a view :coffee1:

There's endless list of 'things to do & see' in every province.  Just search and you get a long list of...

... wat, park, wat, park, wat, park, wat, park, museum, wat, park, wat, park

Isn't it the same in USA ... church, park, church, park, church, park, church :cheesy:

Same with build a Greenhouse, having garden.   Buy 2 more lots and think of what to plant.  We can't leave for more than 10 day, as it will get overgrown (rainy season) or dry up & die (dry season).

Not to mention my Kefir water & milk in fridge, for 7-10 day, as about their limit.

Started to set in with wife.  She decided to stop planting on the 2 lots, as not worth the constant upkeep.   Can't eat that much, and no desire to sell, or pay workers to maintain.  Too much for her, and I'm useless.

Why we downsized to begin with, from 400m² house on 2 rai, at Udon Thani to 1/4 rai & 130m² house at PKK.  Living for the house, and took me 2 days to  just cut the damn grass.  Then had to trim the 'wall', and didn't even bother trying.  Just the wall that surrounded the water tanks.

I have been climbing, kayaking, swimming, sup padling, paragliding (not parasailing) big bike touring 3 times around thailand, dirt bike riding, atv, travelling with car, scuba diving, freediving, partying my hearth out for a few months, fitness, Thai boxing, built a farm, my own gym, and stilllllllllllll

I think Norway is better place to be most of the time

Museums are boring and pretentious.

I actually went to the Louvre. I can't remember how many hours I had to stand in line to see the Mona Lisa. And then when you get close, there's a huge crowd of people and the painting is tiny. And it's a scam. It's an over-rated painting of the face of a woman. Who cares?

Dali on the other hand. I did see a Dali exhibition and the paintings were huge and cool. So ok, some art exhibitions are worth it. Take a trip to Europe or back home once every 5 years or however often you can afford it and go see some shows. But I don't need it on a regular basis.

Music and films are available digitally online. And podcasts.

Thailand provides warm weather, nature, sunshine.

And get a hobby.  People who have nothing do to have no imagination and/or are trolling.

Yea, I passed on the Louvre when in Paris.  Amsterdam was awesome though, Van Gough museum & Rijksmuseum.

Philly, PA, USA had decent museum, and Barnes foundation (private collection) was pretty good.  Mexico City had decent ones also.  All 30+ years ago (except AMS), and never had wait, or silly prices they charge now.

According to Time Out magazine, Hanoi is one of the top 20 "cultural cities" in the world.

Bangkok doesn't make the list.

But Hanoi is not that far.

'Cultural cities' ... not even sure what that is.  Different meaning for different folks.  I think Philly is one of the best cities in the world, but if not into USA history, then wouldn't interest anyone, unless you think a Cheesesteak is a tourist attraction.

I only went to San Fran to ride on a cable car, and GF at the time, thought I was nuts.  La Jolla & Napa was nice day outings.  Couple photo opts, and that's about it.

San Diego for the zoo, and only because was raising 2 kids at the time.  Tijuana was a nice day trip, but wouldn't do either now.   Anti zoo now, and Tijuana, not sure how safe that is.

If I didn't work for an airlines, I wouldn't have travelled much at all, especially international.  I can't think of anything worth paying for and sitting on a plane, in economy for more than 2 hours is worth it.  Work for an airlines, and you turn into a 'flying snob' :cheesy:

Road trips across the USA, yea, but most people don't have the time or money, especially if having kids.   Even working for the airlines, I was amazed at how many didn't use the bennies.  Living & kids took up too much of their time & money.   Glad I never had kids then, just for that reason.

Golf, swimming, exercise, making YouTube videos, Watching TV series. Playing classical music. Pa som sip with my GF. Cooking.

Reading books, I am one of Amazon's best customers.

Seems to me the OP missed out when imagination was being distributed.

IMO traveling on the company dime and having a weekend in a new city to explore takes some beating. Opportunity paid for by someone else.

Did the cable car thing in SF, I thought Fisherman's Wharf and Yosemite National Park were great.

On the other side of America, took a bayou cruise with a guy who kept pet alligators, until they got too big.

I've been driven through the Philadelphia projects, it felt just like Soweto.

I do both. Sadly, in Thailand, not that many opportunities to visit the opera, or a classical concert. As for the outdoors, I usually do this every few years when travelling to Oz, or NZ. For practical, but also other reasons, I do not visit national parks and such in Thailand...
